I need your help on an important subject of our game. I have been designing  better population control mechanism for our game for sometimes now. It is an important part of the game, as without it, a lot of features would kinda lose their purposes due to being overly easy.

There are some options, and I have some preference. But I want to hear your inputs:

  • Option A - We need to feed food to all of our troops, every round, or else they could leave.
  • Option B - Secret Garden has limited slots at the beginning(9 slots by default). Maxing level with a monster can create new slot. Over crowded(more than slots) can create conflict between monsters that result in injuries.
  • Option C - Prefer the current design, no population control.

Your vote and comments would always be a great help!

I believe that "reproduction" should be encouraged in this game. A player should be rewarded for making more tentacles. Let's explore other options: Perhaps you could unleash extra spawn to an enemy's territory crippling their defenses before hitting them with your Royal Army? Or how about collapsing multiple of the same "monster card" into one card showing a quantity in a corner? I'd rather give Lilith a benefit for birthing a large army of creatures.

Thank you for your input! I balance the game with certain amount of species we possess in mind. If I were to change the number of army, I have to re-balance the whole battle system. It is hard to gauge the amount of mating a player desire, but ideally not too much that it would seem repetitive, nor too restrictive that one give up before trying. And for the gameplay outside of the battle, I do prefer number of monsters is not the ultimate and only solution, which could render all the puzzle like mechanism pointless.

I would suggest a way to "sell" tentacles for resources, so players have some agency to which ones leave. It would suck to loose a tentacle that you put a lot of time leveling and have only low level ones left.

Sell a tentacle? Hmm, interesting idea. I do want some way to get rid of some high level monsters, but I can't think of a legit plot on who would buy a tentacle monster.

Maybe it's not so much selling, more like the tentacle is sacrificing itself and you get it's parts? I'm thinking of a book where the trees are sentient and willingly fall and turn into tools or building supplies that the people need. The book is in the Enders Game series, Speaker for the Dead. Highly recommend for anyone into sci-fi
