Update: I'm Revising Eight (Patreon)
Content
TL;DR: I'm revising Eight for publication on Amazon. There'll be no Patreon charges until I start releasing new chapters.

Hey all, thank you for your patience while I've been radio silent. As originally planned, I took two weeks off from writing after finishing The Lions of Dawrtaine. Also as planned, I began reading Eight to re-ground myself in the story and characters. That's where things got hung up--I started making changes.
They were minor at first, but as I kept going and the more I looked at my notes of the feedback I'd received--from here, Royal Road, and the couple of LitRPG Discords of which I'm a member--the more I saw the need for structural changes, especially in the early stages of the story. They were in desperate need of consolidation.
Here's the thing: I'm a discovery writer. I set up the world and let the characters loose in it. While there are planned beats and milestones, I don't always know what the characters will do from chapter to chapter; how they'll interact and how they'll try to achieve their goals.
The process tends to introduce extraneous details and story hooks, and the beginning doesn't always have as much context as it needs to support the ending.
These weaknesses are things that are typically fixed during the revision process, but Eight was written serially. I did my best to moderate them, but there's only so much that's possible in the moment. There's a reason why revision is so very important to the writing process.
So, that's what I'm doing: revising Eight, specifically with the intention of strengthening the story and hopefully releasing it for wider publication on Amazon.
The plot is staying the same, as are the characters. There are some changes though, including:
- Diriktot is now the Fallen God of Order.
- Eight's status lists Body Power instead of Hit Points; the resource is explained differently from the beginning.
-Eight's experiences with bushcrafting are much deeper than before.
I may also combine the two Eight books into one long book. It'll depend on the final word counts and if there's a natural break point. We'll see. (If you have any feedback about this idea, please share it in the comments.)
You're probably wondering when to expect new chapters from Eight's story. Unfortunately, the honest answer is that I don't know.
My revision speed should speed up once I'm through the early bushcrafting/learning-magic arcs, but I'm not willing to guess a date. Writing for me is an organic process--I never quite know where it will take me or how long.
It will be this year, though. I'm excited by the changes I'm making, but I'm also excited to start writing the next part of Eight's adventure.
Thank you again for your patience and support.
Best regards,
