Once you begin gaining and packing on more and more weight, you’ll notice subtle differences in your body. Your clothes are getting tighter, your bulging gut prevents you from bending over as far, you can feel a jiggle when you walk. Many things are noticeable, but some are far more subtle. Your breathing is one of them.

Thick fat on your chest, belly and love handles start to encircle your internal organs and your rib cage. This extra weight can cause your lungs to do more work to just take normal breaths. Your lungs are pressing against all the extra blubber and bulk..

Take a moment and notice your normal breathing pattern. Do you take deep, full breaths or are they more shallow. Many fat people do not take significantly full breaths and this can lead to fatigue and less oxygen in your system. Research using handheld breathing devices have shown that exercising can help improve your ability to breath.

The diaphragm muscle needs to be trained to handle the extra weight and be able to take full, deep breaths.

Evaluate your breathing.  Sit and take a deep breath. Was it uncomfortable? Could you expand your lungs to a large capacity? If you are not accustom to breathing deeply, it can be uncomfortable. To keep the diaphragm strong, you need to condition your body to achieve better breath control.

Take a minute and practice taking deep breaths. Get your diaphragm used to working with the extra weight. I do this in the morning and evening as I lay in bed. I breathe in slowly, pulling in as much air as I can, stretching my rib cage and  giving my diaphragm a workout.

It’s like a meditation, taking air in through your nose, feeling your body swell with each deep breath and slowly exhaling through your mouth. Feel your rib cage expand, your belly rising and falling. Fell how big your body is, how heavy you are becoming.

It’s a little thing, but as you train your lungs and diaphragm, you’ll be able to have your weight not encumber your ability to get good, deep breaths and support your continued growth as you fatten and become the overfed beast you desire to become.
