On Thanksgiving itâs not uncommon to think about eating until you can barely move, but in the quest for long term gaining, is it the best move?
Iâve had my share of huge pig out meals or whole day food crawls and they are great. That belly taking on more and more until you physically feel your belly affect how you balance, gotta walk a little slower, shirt riding up and becoming more swollen with each forkful.
But I also find that after one of these huge days Iâm a little less inclined to eat huge the next day, more trips to the bathroom to get it all out - itâs not another day of big eating usually. And I think your body also is pushing through so much that, you may not get all the calories pulled out.
I find itâs better to eat more frequent meals. Every 3 hours - and you have to plan. Gaining isnât about eating when youâre hungry, itâs about supplying your body with a constant flow of calories. Once youâve consumed an excess of what you can use for your bodyâs maintenance, then youâre storing fat.
And these âmealsâ donât have to be sit down big meals - they can be mini meals youâve prepared and brought to work or just have ready. There are lots of options that are calorie dense without having to just eat high sugar and high fat options: dried fruits and nuts, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice bowls, sandwhiches, granola bars - lots of options but you need to plan a bit so you are not falling back on fast food or missing a meal.
So while itâs fun to really pack it away, make sure you have a consistent plan and are trying to grab food as often as you can. Growing bigger isnât easy, but itâs easier with a game plan
