Home stretch!!! That question from Sam - "You gave up your crown to save your people, would she?" - reallllly lays out how dany and jon are different. Dany grew up being told she and her family are the rightful rulers in exile. She doesn't have an identity outside of I-should-be-queen-and-it-was-all-stolen-from-me. It's a great touch how sensitive/paranoid she is about the slightest hint of resistence - like when she brought up Sansa's loyalty to Jon. Jon on the other hand grew up being told he was no one. He made an identity around his night's watch vows, trying to live up to Ned Stark's values, and later his own personal code in general. He's king when people want him to be and not if it will help him save those people. He has the option. I think because of her own psychology, Dany doesn't have that option, and executing people is easier than learning to take yourself less seriously.

Can’t wait now for you to finish this final chapter and start HoTD in time. Hope you really enjoy this last season. It’s been amazing reliving and rewatching along with you, and the main reason I became a patron. I personally loved every episode of GoT and hope you do too.

I’m glad you noticed the parallels to season 1 with Dany and Jon arriving at Winterfell. Jon bonding with Rhaegal is so fitting considering that dragon is named after his father. This episode shows why Jon is one of my top 3 favorite characters in fiction. He never wanted to be commander of the nights watch or King in the north, but he was chosen by his people and both times he did what was right FOR his people. He says to Davos and Lyana Mormont that his titles don’t matter, because he only cares about stopping the dead and saving mankind, not his power. “He’s got blue eyes! I’ve always had blue eyes!” Cracks me up every time. The scene with the undead Umber boy is scary af. When ur editing look at his eyes while Tormund is talking.

The dragons are names for drogo her husband, rhaegar and viserys her brothers. The dragon watching Jon bang dany was Drogon. Her husband………….so there’s a double meaning there. Also how Jon rides raegal, the dragon named for his father.

When dany tells Sam She’s unaware that he is one of two people that know the secret that will destroy her world. And she just gave him a motive. I wish Sam would have said to her “thank you for telling me, do you mind if I go speak to Jon now……something I’m meaning to tell him”

The tarleys took up arms against Daenerys. If they died in battle it be a different situation. The tarleys were POWs They were defeated, the battle was over. You can’t execute people after the battle is won and call it war. POWs (prisoners of war) have rights, or at least they do in civilized cultures. Dany said join me or die, that was forced conscription, mandatory service because if you refuse you’ll be punished……. And dany is against slavery……. The essence of slavery is “work for me or you die” which is what dany did again and again. She didn’t liberate slaves, she just took off their collars and took the place of the masters. The unsullied, don’t know what freedom is, they’re conditioned to follow orders. When dany freed them and offered to let them fight as free men, it was manipulation. They’ve never tried freedom so how can they make a fair choice? A)freedom b) fight for me killing slavery. They know all about fighting and slavery but never tried freedom. After dany ordered them to kill the masters she emotionally manipulated them into following her. She should have insisted they go out and experience freedom then return to her service if they wish. Did she even pay them For their service? They were conditioned to fear their masters and obey orders, were they even equipped to choose freedom? That’s why countries that ban slavery don’t just limit it to unwilling slavery, even voluntary slavery is banned, because people can be enslaved in lots of different ways. Violence in astapor or emotional manipulation by dany.

You asked when did Jon last see Bran. It was when Bran was in a coma. He was saying goodbye before going to the nights watch. The proof of Jon's title can be found in the Citadel records. They don't have to rely on Bran's visions. When Theon saved Yara, the first guy killed in the attack was Rob McElhenney who plays Mac in It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

When Sansa told Tyrion that he was foolish for believing that Cersei was going to help fight the walkers, was it simply because she doesn't trust her, or did Bran tell her that? I noticed they cut to Bran after that conversation. I wish they had shown Bran revealing to Sansa and Arya everything he knew about Littlefinger.

Too me that was too comedy for GOT. It’s like they thought of the joke and decided to put it in even if it’s unrealistic. Edd wouldn’t hesitate to Strike a wight, and it’s easy to spot the difference between blue irises and blue eye balls. Need to kill your darlings, they liked that joke and decided that it was going in. I hate it when writers go for the joke even if it doesn’t fit the characters behavior, or the standard behavior of wights/nights watch. My pet hate this season is how many lines are recycled from earlier seasons, as if they’re iconic and make the show appear more consistent. Edd: who ever does last, burn the rest of us. He said that way earlier in another scene. It makes the writers appear too self referential, it’s also unrealistic for a character to do, so it damages the believability of the dialogue. Other lines recycled are fine when they are for a purpose like jon to mance “is there survival more important than your pride?” Then 2 seasons later Daenerys to jon “isn’t there survival more important than your pride” That repetition is genius because it shows Jon’s hypocrisy, or maybe he now sympathies with mance. I think the cave talk is what Daenerys changed her mind over, Jon started too as well then the rescue beyond the wall just solidified it for Jon. He was loyal now.

I think Sansa understands Cersei more than anyone else. She was in very close quarters with Cersei for a very long time--at a very vulnerable age. Jon says to Sansa, "You almost sound like you admire her". Sansa's response is, "I learned a great deal from her". Sometimes, Sansa's speech pattern even sounds like Cersei. "What do dragons eat...anyway?"

If you were fireproof and brought three dragons into existence, you would probably think you were destined to rule whatever kingdom you decided to rule. Just sayin...

The only reason I don't Daenerys is suited to being Queen is because she has some frightening impulses. She often says some alarming stuff and has to be brought back down to earth by her advisors (even Tyrion said so last season), but I don't think it makes her a bad person because in most cases she seems to have a strong sense of right and wrong. I wouldn't expect her to just be okay with Jon being the "rightful heir" though because her entire 7 season quest to take the Iron Throne is built on the fact that she's the rightful heir.

I loved the full circle moment at the end there! S1E1 ends with Jaime pushing Bran out of the window, and S8E1 ends with them seeing each other for the first time again since that moment.

Very true. Shouldn't have an impulsive king or queen. I did think Tyrion being there was good to balance her instincts but I'm not sure how long that'll last.
