I adore how clear the message of this movie is. The risk it takes in the first half to lull the audience into seeing cardboard cutouts in the characters. In the beginning, they lean into their "roles" so hard it's funny, at best, and embarrassing to watch, at worst. Then...about 40 minutes from the end, it changes...you see them all let down their well-maintained image of themselves and show that they're just...people. 😉 Love it!

Jack's World

Fun fact, this was filmed at my aunt’s High school! And my dad & her mother’s (so my Grandma’s) mom was a Ringwald, & Molly Ringwald’s grandpa is related to my great grandma.

Great movie! One of the first 80s films I saw. You should watch hachi: a dogs tale, if you like dog movies.

It's funny. You said you thought that Andrew and Claire were more likely to hook up. The same with Alison and Brian. Well, usually that's how it would be. Andrew and Claire were in the same popular group and Alison and Brian were in the much less popular geek/weirdo groups. I actually love that the movie shows us the opposite because I always felt it carried more truth. That was my experience in high school. I always thought that a lot of the jock guys really were attracted to the weird girls. Also, the super popular girls actually had crushes on the bad boys like John.

Also, Dan try some sushi. It's incredible!

Oh, and Alison was eating a Cap'n Crunch and pixie sticks sandwich!

I almost forgot this movie is only about an hour and a half. Somehow it feels longer. Honestly, whenever I watch this movie, I tend to think about which character I relate to the most. I think I know who it is.

Scott Kerr

I kind of noticed that Bender was going for something else with that final kiss on Claire at the end. But at the last second, Claire stepped aside. Proof of Claire being a tease! lol "She's only a tease if what she does gets you hot."

Lol! To be fair they were standing right in front of Claire's dad the whole time. He was literally in the car watching and waiting! Which is hilarious that nobody talks about that much. Who makes out with someone in front of their dad? Ewww 🤣

I was a preteen the first time I saw this movie. My mom made us watch it together. I honestly couldn't sleep later that night because I wanted to know what happened to them on that Monday morning at school!

Scott Kerr

You'll never know who it is. lol. Just kidding. Somebody is gonna quote Andrew and say "You brought it up man!" if I don't answer. lol. It's actually a combination of Brian and Andrew. I relate to Brian because I always had a lot of anxiety over my grades in school. Plus I befriended a lot of the weird kids. I relate to Andrew because I was pretty athletic and hung out with my hockey buddies a lot in school. Personality wise, I wasn't much like Andrew.

Thinking on it now, I didn't fit the mold of any of them back then. Like as a freshman I tried to be more like Claire. I wanted to follow the trends for hair and clothing that all the popular girls did. I was afraid to not fit in. It was way too boring though, and I found myself greatly more attracted to weirdos and bad boys as friends and romantically. By the time I was a senior I dressed more like John, dated guys like John or Brian or a mixture of the two. Hated anything sporty. Friends with lots of Alison's. Guys like Andrew made a lot of eye contact and smiled at me but they would never break the status quo and ask me out. Oh, I did date one wrestling champ senior year but he was kind of a huge baby! Never again. 🤣 I cared about my grades too, but not much. I'm going to go with Alison/John combo. P.S. my high school was terribly cliquey.

Hockey really wasn't a thing in my high school. I'm not even sure we had a hockey team? I know nothing. Most of my schools Andrews were into football, basketball, or wrestling. Perhaps Lacrosse? I've blocked it all out!

Scott Kerr

It's weird because I didn't feel like a jock (compared to the football guys and the wrestling guys). I felt more like a weirdo that decided to play ice hockey. So I'd say I have more in common with Brian. I didn't even care much for sports. But hockey...felt like more than a sport.

I agree. I think it's more than a sport too. Very dangerous. Huge sticks, ice, all those angry dudes out there with you. Most people can't even ice skate let alone do all that too!

I mean it's a weekend detention, I'm pretty sure it would last the whole day.

He can make a new channel called Dan tries. "Dan tries sushi" would be a good 1st episode. 😄

Damn, my school was never that harsh. Longest a detention would be is like maybe an hour. If they did something that severe, they'd probably just be suspended
