This episode was…mind blowing! …I’ll see myself out

This ending was another upsetting moment that made me consider quitting the show. In s4 ep7 when Bronn visited Tyrion's cell, Bronn practically spelled out exactly how that fight with the Mountain would play out. He said if he were to fight the Mountain, he could: 1. Dance around until the Mountain is so tired. 2. Get him off his feet somehow. 3. But one misstep and I'm dead. This show gives you spoilers without letting you know they're spoilers.

Things like Gilly surviving a wildling attack and Oberyn dying in trial by combat are what makes this show so unpredictable at times. If you’d asked me at the start of this season which of those two wouldn’t make it past episode 8 I definitely would not have thought Oberyn.

In S4 ep6 at the council meeting, Tywin was informed by Varys that Jorah and Barristan Selmy were now Daenerys' valuable and trusted advisors. At the end of that scene we heard Tywin say to Lord Tyrell 'Fetch my quill and paper'. We didn't know then what he was planning on writing, but we found out in this episode. He had one of Varys' little birds deliver that pardon letter to Daenerys, exposing Jorah as a spy. It's Tywin's way of weakening Daenerys by making her lose one of her advisors. I love the way they gave us a subtle hint about this in ep6.

Man it never gets old. My reaction watching this for the first time was about the same as yours lol. One of the most brutal deaths in any TV show ever. Right up there with Glenn on Walking dead. Oberyn was a beast but shouldn't have been so cocky and should have just killed him right away. You should have known this wouldn't go the way you want 😂🤣😅. I also wanna comment on Danny and Jorah. I think the reason she is so hurt is bc he never told her. He should have came clean by now and given her the chance to forgive him. I think he should have told her when they were in Quarth and then after he helps her get her dragons back and stuck with her he would have earned her trust back. Instead she had to find out like this.

Oh yea, let's get these next 2 episodes which are both insane.

i am also absolutely distraught about oberyn’s death. one of my favorite characters.

Arthur Fields

I wondered if Ygritte let Gilly go because she recognized that she was a wildling and not because she was holding a baby. They didn't seem to care about killing young people before. They only spared Ollie so that he could send a message. The Thenns probably enjoy the taste of baby meat.

Does anyone know the significance of that conversation Tyrion had with Jaime about the kid who killed beetles? It made me think of Hodor but I don't think it had anything to do with him. In S1 ep4 Tyrion did say 'I have a tender spot in my heart for cripples, bastards and broken things'.

My personal take is that it’s Tyrion wondering if bad stuff happens for a greater reason or if it’s just all meaningless. He seemed particularly distraught and couldn’t accept that Orson was killing all those Beatles for seemingly no reason, much like it would be tragic to think that all the bad stuff that’s happened to him has been for no reason. I’ve seen others suggest that it was foreshadowing Oberyn’s death, and some say it’s a commentary on Westeros as a whole (the nobles are like Orson, crushing the common folk like beatles through their games)

Interesting take! I never thought of it that way, I just assumed that Gilly was lucky to have been found by Ygritte than any other wildling.

Before killing Oberyn, The Mountain confessed that he did remember Elia Martell and that he killed her the same way he killed Oberyn, by crushing her head. But did he actually remember killing her, or was he just saying that to be a dick? I don't remember if Oberyn said he saw Elia's body after she was killed. If he did, I think he would have mentioned that her head was crushed.
