I remember the reviews for this movie back in the day. Mixed to say the least. I really liked it. I went to see it in the theater twice. If I can dig deep here I'd say that M. Night was making use of true horror in this film. Rather than using ghosts, aliens, or demons, he's using real horror aspects to bring these characters together. The elders gathered their families and friends to Covington woods as a means to protect them all from the horrors inflicted on them in the past. They were all close to people who were murdered. They were victims of true crime and horror. Most people think this is one of the directors weakest films but I disagree. Thanks for the request Mike!

I remember back in the day the most negative talk was aimed at M. Night because he always had to do a twist at the end and people were tired of that. He is a good director, but trapped to his own style and becomes too predictive. Maybe if he would have tried to do something else then people would have been ok him to do another "twist" movie. Went to see this at the cinema back in the day and I liked the horror aspect of it, but didnt like that ending or other stuff.

Some other directors have also done the same sin of copying themself's, but people like Tarantino its all about style and his movies dont follow the same pattern so it works.
