Jack's World

One of my favorite Tom Hanks films for sure! Soundtrack was amazing & i’m also with you there that I’m not quite sure how they were able to put him into those famous historical scenes with presidents or people that looked exactly like them but for the early 90s they did a damn good job! And you are 100% not in the minority about your feelings towards Jenny everyone hates her and the way that she lead him on so don’t feel in the minority about that lol 😂

This is an amazing movie and one of the best ways to use CGI to support the story. Example those presidents were real and Tom Hanks was inserted in to a real footage with them or other real people. Also Lt Dan's legs were CGI'd away or ping pong balls and so on. Seeing the world and good or bad times in America through the eyes of Forrest. What people miss on Jenny. It was a tragic story and people like that do exist. She was molested and she had to take the low road on everything because she didnt know better. People with bad past many time believe that they dont deserve good things in life and stay in that same loop. That is usually the reason why some people jump again and again to bad relationships with same kind of bad people who hurt them one way of another. They think they deserve it and would need theraphy to break that circle. I knew a girl like Jenny and dated her when I was young. She came from an alcoholic family and had such a bad self esteem and couldnt take any good things that I did to her. We broke up but remained friends. After that it was bad relationships, drugs and self loathing. One guy even broke her leg. We tried to help, but she always went back and many her friends got tired of helping because she did all the mistakes all over again. I was dating one of her friends at the time and one morning I woke up to a horrible scream. My girlfriend was in shock after getting a message that girl hanged herself and that was the end of it. When I got older I understand why she acted the way she did and there are many people like that who dont know that they would deserve to be loved and have good things in their life. Jenny said to Forrest that "you dont know what love is", but in reality it was really Jenny who didnt know that.

Also the thing you said about nostalgia in the end is pretty much true. Im 37 now and I dont feel old at all, but seeing movies like this brings so much memories like music does. Growing up in the 90's and start of 00's was fucking awesome. There was so much positivity in the air and technology and Internet was full of possibilities. Many movies felt so ground breaking, music was awesome and just doing stuff or communicating with different people was fun that werent connect to social media. If there could be a time machine and you'd be thrown to that era I say about ten minutes and you would be like a fish in a water.

Forest loosely represents America or the American dream. Where Jenny represents American nightmare. If america was a man he’d be Forest History of racism descended from the founder of the kkk. simple minded and good natured. Despite his apparent disability he’s a huge success story, he’s underestimated because he’s simple. Like the USA is underestimated and disrespected but they confound people expectation’s with their success, strength and morality. Jenny is the opposite, she represents how some people can’t escape their trauma. She makes bad decisions because she’s got a self destructive nature because of her childhood abuse. Despite her intelligence (compared to Forest) she’s a failure in life because being smart doesn’t decide if you’re a success or a failure. It’s decided by your nature. It’s down to what’s in your heart, not your brain.

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s important to remember sometimes we can’t help somebody no matter how much we want to help. The misplaced guilt can be very corrosive. I remember what the doctor said “a life is made up of good things and bad things and sometimes the bad things outweigh the good things but that doesn’t mean the good things didn’t happen or weren’t important.” And I’m sure you added to her pile of good things. Ps traditionally people are described as “hanged” not “hung” the old phrase goes ‘pictures are hung, people are hanged” it’s just considered more respectful. I don’t know why, I just learned that years ago and it stuck with me.

Oh not Forrest Gump. I love that movie so much <3 I love how it took place in Alabama where I live. The whole movie is supposed to be a cliche of the American south and living the perfect life.

Damn, that came without warning azhsedgfqaz I'm sorry that happened to you and you are correct about people not being able to break th cycle.. but could you include a small content warning next time you talk about somebody unaliving themself? that would be helpful.

Ohhhh I wasn't sure tbh but that's really cool how they did those president scenes. It looked like he was actually there. A lot of great uses of CGI here. I do agree that Jenny has a tragic backstory so I always felt sympathy for her but was still annoyed with how she treated Forrest but it was at least understandable. And about that personal story of yours, I'm very sorry to hear that.
