Also - The reason they couldn't do the battles in this season was bc they had a pretty small budget.

This is regarded as one of the best episodes of the series. Containing one of the most shocking moments in tv history. But also it’s theme of honor vs love. The conversations between Ned and Varys and Jon and Aemon mirror each other. Ned chose love for his daughters over his own honor but still lost his life.

They had to cut the battle because of the budget. The battle is shown in the book. And yes Robb sacrificed 2000 men to distract Tywin so Robb could capture Jaime.

As sad as it was when Ned was executed (with his own sword, "Ice," by the way) this is the episode that probably hooked me to this series. It was different, proved no one was safe because what show kills of the "main" character in the first season? You're reaction was the same as mine when I first saw this.
