Great reaction! Glad to see you react to a classic. You can see the parts that are definitely a sign of the times with this movie, and you called those out. The movie music was composed by Bernard Hermann whose music has lived on past his death. One of my favorites of his is Twisted Nerve (the whistle song) which can be heard in Kill Bill: Vol. 1 and of course the iconic murder theme from Psycho has popped up in tons of other things over the years. Lots of connections to the original Halloween with Dr. Loomis' name being an homage to Sam Loomis in this movie and of course Janet Leigh is the mother of Jamie Lee Curtis. This was one of the last major films to be shot in black & white. It was going out of style by this time in favor of color but Hitchcock thought it might be considered too gory if it was in color. Plus the budget was small and it was less expensive.

If you like Hitchcock, he came out with another crazy one 3 years later called The Birds. It's in color too. Agreed about Anthony Perkins. He was amazing in this movie! The sequel following this is actually pretty good. I wouldn't mind a reaction of it. Definitely my favorite part of this movie was the Private Investigator's fall down the stairs. Just the way he fell was scary enough to watch.

I remember Night of the Living Dead came out 8 years after Psycho and it was in black and white. I heard it was because it was on a really low budget even though it was such a great movie.

The blood was really chocolate syrup.

Spot on. Billy did quote Norman's "we all go a little mad some times" right before shooting Randy in Scream. Billy also shares Sam Loomis' last name as a homage, as does Dr Loomis from Halloween (1978) sharing his entire name. I'm glad you didn't remember the "Did Norman Bates have a motive?" line from Scream, so the killer's identity remained somewhat of a mystery as intended. Impressive that anyone managed to remained unspoiled on this film for so long. Thank goodness you did, because it made a good reaction as well as led to some comedy gold like you seeing a woman's silhouette killing Marion and hearing Norman say "Oh god, mother! Blood!" and still thinking (correctly, it turns out) that Norman killed her. XD

Yes, good thing I completely forgot about Norman Bates' name being in Scream, but I did realize it afterwards. It's been fun watching a lot of these classic horror movies because of how much newer stuff references them

Still can't believe I've never sat and watched this one. But I've seen American Psycho countless times. Patrick Bateman>Norman Bates The Birds would be another good ol Al Hitchcock flick.
