Hello patrons!

It is Tuesday and here is the due Doodle Insights #3!

Link: https://trasevoldog.wordpress.com/2017/02/08/doodle-insights-3-procedural-dithering-part-2/

Edit: Passwords went extinct, everything's public!

As announced, it is the direct sequel to last week's Doodle Insights on the basics of procedural dithering.

This one is quite longer though and gets a bit more technical too. Hopefully I have been clear in all I wrote!

If there's any confusion, please let me know!

Enjoy!

Another excellent set of insights. You are right that every situation provides unique opportunities for optimization. I found the map suggestion interesting, especially since maps were too slow for “PICO-8 lighting, part 1: thin dark line” https://medium.com/@krajzeg/pico-8-lighting-part-1-thin-dark-line-8ea15d21fed7

Yes! Jakub actually went further into the optimization and actually used memory tricks. This is surely better than using arrays but it's also much more complicated to implement and requires knowledge about hexadecimal and the layout of the Pico-8 memory, which will probably be a subject for another Doodle Insights! ;) Jakub's article is great by the way, he's giving lots of great tricks in there and the explanations are very good!
