I really think drawing is 10% theory and 90% practice. Recently, I faced with difficulties, I make key notes for myself. The most important recently - "Do the sketch first and fuck the quality." The ideal approach to do several different small thumbnail sketches, and even better to solve it immediately in colour and composition to illustrate a point. It's just the essence of drawing. Second, do what you really love. I think it is not necessary to explain. And do it with love. The third is "Do something that is impossible to do for the photographer", I don't know, but for me this is important because often I want to dive into the render, but then I realize no matter how cool you rendered, the camera will always do it better. So pure realism out of the picture. Semi-realism or cartoon is the best in my opinion. Although this advice is too personal and depends on your goals, because your training will have to be based on realism, to understand the workings of anatomy, light/shadows, etc. There are so many books and they are all roughly about the same. I have not read fully any one, but I truly believe if you master all 4 books of A.Loomis you'll definitely be better. I hope this can be useful ;3

hey i appreciate the writeup man! I've had kinda the opposite problem where I did too much doing and not enough theory. Kept going so hard and ignoring a lot of peoples inputs, end up costing me years of time. The theory isn't much, but its super important... Cool hearing your perspective :)

No problem. ;3 It is also important to have guidelines in the form of favorite artists. Good trend to keep all the art you like in a special folder and review periodically. It inspires a lot and helps not to lose the path.
