It's not a secret I'm from Chile, here in South America. I've been pondering on the setting for the new story, and settled on a made up island in Japan. I did this because, unless I made the story happen in Chile, I would still have to do research to make a believable setting, and a made up island would give me a bit more freedom (I don't want to set the story in Chile). So I thought that perhaps writing a Chilean protagonist would let me write a better character since I'd know what kind of culture he comes from. Really, it's a lot of me overthinking things. But in a way it also feels weird, like I'd be forcing something into the story.

I don't know. I'm currently writing it as if he is, but it's early enough that I could still change it. What do you guys think?

...This reminds me that I need to catch up on the fantasy story. I think I'd like some of the later stuff, but the opening chapters just aren't grabbing me, for whatever reason.

I don't blame you. I think those early chapters are very slow. I kind of wish I could rewrite them now that I have a better idea of what I'm doing with it.

I don't think it matters where the MC is from, as long as the MC also acts like people from those areas. Like a European person in terms of culture is a lot different than from a Chinese or Korean for example. The opportunity that having an MC from your region brings is that it might be easier for you to have the MC act according to the local norms and values and the cultural expectations.
