Hello everyone!

I have been giving consideration into what might keep patrons such as yourselves around longer for a particular creator.

I am looking to improve patron retention from month to month so we can hit our next milestones. So I ask, "What other features do other creators you back offer that you'd like to see here?"

Multi-month exclusives? More giveaways? What do you like to see from your creators?

Comments

Makeshift Razor

While not a motivator for me, I have heard some people say that they often stay longer due to long term benefits like multi-month exclusives, or retaining earlybird status.

Makeshift Razor

Personally I like what you have already done, voting, and painting contests keep me engaged (though I didn't get the chance to finish my model for this month's contest).

Christian Martinez

I mostly stick around with a creator if they've got good work and a fair price for the amount of content each month. Throwback releases are fun to see, as well as "loyalty rewards" that offer special hero/boss miniatures.

Jacob Mertz

Honestly? It's the month to month content. Loyalty rewards and month to month exclusives haven't really kept me around before. I tend to not really like them anyway, depending on how they are run, they usually prey on F.O.M.O. and I'm not a fan of that. Painting contest and giveaways don't retain me either, nothing against them but I have seen what people can do and I can't hold a candle to what some people can do for their entries. So... yeah, the regular monthly stuff, if what I see in previews doesn't interest me I am more likely to leave than not. I like your sculpts and the style of them. Lots of quirky concepts and non-traditional personalities. That's what keeps me here.

Anonymous

Having the idea/model you voted for is hugely motivating.

Jupp3

A consistent delivery plan, that is followed (and upgraded) over time. Are the pinups now a monthly thing? How about adding "One bigger scenery element / special base" part of it too? You make them quite often anyway (food cart, goblin throne, new "door base") Having monthly minimum amount of minis is nice. Personally, I don't care about "bigger squads of very similar units", I prefer the current 5 random (well, voted...) minis to, say "15 dwarves this month"

Anonymous

Not a backer at the moment (currently hooked on 10mm and 6mm scale minis for wargames) but I do buy a model here and there from your releases. Biggest thing for me is general themes for a months release. I tend to bounce around subscriptions depending on release’s themes and if I have a use for them or if I already have other minis of the same theme. I think what your doing now is great. Could always put out a poll to see what people use your minis for to better tailor your releases to them.

HAChaos

For the first year it was because some people did loyalty bonuses. Honestly I stayed way too long on lots of creators who's sculpts I simply wasn't using. I now focus on unique sculpts and how much character the models have, you are top notch in this area and it's a big reason why I don't see myself dropping the subscription even though I've dropped ones like Titan Forge and Archvillian.

Anonymous

Personally I joined and plan to stick around because I just really love what you make. I don't think you've ever made a single mini I didn't like, and they are all so unique and interesting too! Others I have quit just didn't have minis I liked every month, were hard to get and/or were too expensive, but you have none of these problems!

Anonymous

I've been thinking about this a bit for other reasons, but I can say the number one reason right now that I stick with a Patreon creator is having personal affection/a positive "relationship" with the creator: If I feel a bond of some sort with a creator, I'm more likely to keep the subscription going even when the offering for a given month isn't quite what I'm looking for. This can include appreciating the way they communicate, seeing a lot of responsiveness in general to patrons, and even surface things (affinity for queer creators or any creator who makes even a little queer content, e.g.). I sort of see it as literally acting as a patron for an artist, in the classical sense-- supporting their creations even if I don't want to consume a particular offering. The other thing I'm a sucker for is being in a "discount" tier-- even if it's just $1 less, I'm reluctant to let go of a discount subscription.

Ty Mansfield

I think art style is my first priority.. Secondly I personally prefer complete themed sets with variation. Can I use the models more that a one off? That's important to me.

Anonymous

I think it depends on the kind of niche you want to be in. I am primarily a painter and wargame player. For me that means I tend to gravitate to the patreons that release themed content I know I can turn into a playable force and looks good. I also subscribe to some that I just really dig the style of and want to paint. I tend to stick around a few months even if I don’t want the subsequent models because I never know when I might use them for a random character or something, and to support the creator more than just 10 bucks one time. Loyalty rewards don’t really drive me to stick around and I rarely participate in the contests, but do tend to post in discord communities my paint jobs as I work through them. For your Patreon specifically I subbed for a while because I really liked the style and there were some models I could use for a Rangers of Shadowdeep game. I still follow releases and love the style but because they are very unique, without a force to go with them it’s rare to jump in.

Palette Beard

Bits, I suppose? Not really applicable to you but other manufacturers that I actually build skirmish units from I appreciate having a library of hands with various weapons

Palette Beard

Artisan_Guild seem to do a great job of this. Enough each month to do a warband and a pinup

Whitney Moss

I'm spending $40ish every month on Patreon and I keep thinking I need to drop one or two. Style is the reason I don't. There's always at least one model that I don't want to miss out on each month for one my D&D campaigns or for painting. For example, your Medusa and the band models, I love so much I want to print and paint just for fun, even though they don't help any D&D campaign.

Masterwork Miniatures

Dynamic Poses mostly, generally when i see a set of characters leaning on something or standing there i cancel my subscription. I have supported a few artists for years, they tend to have a second set of models as a bonus, although they are bigger outfits like artisans, titan forge, etc… honestly though as stated above its all about the art. I do love a lot of what you do but there has been a lot of reworked and reused assets like the female goblin character. Boring poses and reworked assets will always make me feel like i am not getting a good value for the money and cancel a subscription personally.

ammut

Personally, I'm interested in neither multi month exclusives (or loyalty rewards), nor crossover freebies (although those are great for discovering new creators), nor painting contests/giveaways. What keeps me hooked is: - Dialogue with the patrons. That can be open calls for inspiration, polls for upcoming releases, but even something as simple as regular (but not spammy) updates about the progress of the next release. - really high quality models. Stuff that is adequately "stylized"/"normalized" for the scale it's meant for. - first class delivery. Any service that keeps my STLs accessible and well presented on the internet. E.g. MMF, but neither Sync nor MyAirBridge. - polished presentation. Not just Screenshots of Zbrush, but a nice render, maybe even using some fancy material or shades or whatever. - clear information. What is this months release, what's coming next month, a stickied open post showing the goodies even for patrons-to-be, and how the STLs will be delivered. - adequate pricing. 10 bucks is standard, if you bill more than that, you better deliver more than standard. Also, pre-supported files nowadays are standard as well. - coherent releases. A release should form something like a squad that fits together. Note: this is explicitly something you don't really do, but you check so many other marks that I don't care about it. But I still think it would be cool if you did. On the other hand, your models are all so wonderfully whimsical and unique, this is basically your selling point, kinda. Would be a shame if you'd lose that. Still, I'd like to see you try. - Sexy stuff. The occasional NSFW bit is *definitely* something that keeps me hooked. - personal style. You have it, that's why I'm here.

Eric Jackson

The base content is the most important to me. I also look for different types of figures, I get tired of every patreon doing Dwarves one month and Orcs the next. A creator doing their own thing is a plus. I also like pin-up and nsfw content, as long as it's classy. There aren't that many creators making good pin-up style figures and fewer that do so regularly. Quality pre-supports is also a big factor.

Piecemakers

Honestly, I'm around for the long haul simply because of your art style itself, as well as the welcome diversity in body type/shape, culture, emotive expressions, and themes. Both you and Bite The Bullet are the top of my list, and I'm proud to support whatever it is you're creating! 🤩 As for retention ideas: seasonal and/or longevity rewards, voting weight, etc. seem to be the most prevalent, whereas throwback releases feel like they cheapen the same (as long as the latter are available in the shop, ofc).

Powermonkey

If I wanted anything else, it would be for more goblins and for more models to have pinup variants - including the male models, hardly anybody does that. Like, think Sherlorc but dressed like a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure character. That would be a lot more work though. I'll second the request for bits, being able to customize is fun. Maybe if at least one model each month had alternate hands/heads/body like the goblin barmaid? Ultimately I'm here because I like your art style and I like painting your models - especially your goblins, their design is unique and I'd really like to have more of them. If you keep doing what you're doing now, I'm not going anywhere.

Eric Jackson

One thing you shouldn't do is polls. I heard many creators who have had nothing but bad experiences with polls. Endless complaints from users who didn't get what they wanted, arguments in the comments, etc. Also people vote for the same thing in polls across different creators so you end up with a dozen creators doing the same thing, everyone releasing Dwarves for example.

Eric Jackson

I can't think of any creators that make male pin-ups/NSFW figures. Actually there are not that many even in the physical miniatures world, Hasslefree Miniatures is one of the only ones I can think of. Maybe a niche to fill?

Kristina B.

like last month or the month before when several merchants i know complained cause almost every designer they carried was doing dinosaurs.

Robert Depue

Art style. I spend quite a bit on Patreon, and yours would be one of the very last ones I would drop. You do great representations of ladies of all sizes too. The only request I would have is more of the multi-part minis. Like the female wizard that could be done 5 ways. Or the goblin barmaid that could be sweet, sexy, or a modern variant. Anything extra is always appreciated. Getting minis on MMF is super helpful. And the polls of the options for the next month are appreciated too. Maybe the choice that didnt make it can be a bonus mini down the line? Just keep making your lovely minis in your distinct style.

Jenny Underwood

I like stuff I can put on my table and use for interesting characters. This last lot are great for a modern fantasy setting. I am also a fan of the body diversity, so many patrons get stuck on different kinds of Humans.

Roger Gonzalez

Love the voting and other community engagement. Also I can’t stress this enough….. goblins. You have an amazing art style I just want more and more. If I wanted to add anything it would be furniture/ scenery .

Joey D

I'll start by saying that I back a lot of patreon artists... way too many tbh... I'm having to be more and more strict with myself. I just plain can't afford everything. I I'm having to drop things I think are "yeah that's nice", and only back creators of things that I 'absolutely must have'... things I adore and couldn't possibly live without. at least... that's the plan... things still slip by... Anywho... here's some things that make me stick with a patreon: - The quality of the models. I'm focusing more and more on top notch awesomeness, rather than sheer quantity. I'd take 2 gorgeous models with lots character, and several options to make it just how I want... over a pack of 30 'ok' models anyday. Your range of dynamic poses and whimsical awesomeness are what keep me here every month, even when there's some characters I don't like, there's almost always 1 or 2 I love. especially your succubi and goblins! <3 - Earlybird discounts. If I have a discounted tier, I tend to be loathe to drop it... even if it's only $1 less. It is kinda stupid to keep a sub for something if I'm not interested in that month just for a $1 discount tier though... and I have dropped them before. it just makes me lean into keeping... - loyalty bonuses. I have a love/hate relationship with these. I love the extra goodies, and the feeling special from sticking around and being rewarded for it. However... I hate the FOMO it breeds... and I hate it when a loyalty reward isn't announced/shown until the very last month (so you have no idea if you actually like it or not). Sometimes I'll want to drop a sub as that month's pack isn't all that great for me, but the loyalty reward might keep me hooked (especially when buying the reward afterwards costs more on MMF than the sub itself would...). This is something that does keep me on some artists... but I do hate it and hope you don't start doing it... unless it's more of a 2mth thing rather than 3mth... I dunno... - Being an artist that cares about their patrons, regularly communicates and engages with us. Takes on feedback and actually changes things with it (unlike creators like ghamak, who has had so much feedback regarding excessive bust sizes, but doesn't give a flying flamingo and continues with it >.< ) Obviously there is a line here... you can't please everyone 100% of the time... but if lots of people are saying the same thing... that they hate this or that... ignoring them doesn't help :\ - MMF integration and decent downloading... think you're good here. - Releasing at the start of the month (check) - Giving a preview of the next month before the month's end (check) Things I would like to see - while I like the multiple models we get... I do miss the older times where we had 2-3 variants of each character, with multiple extra parts to choose from. I wish there was a way to have some of that again... - NSFW/Pinup stuff. I know it's not for everyone... but sexy things sell. it's a fact of life. Now... I'm not suggesting you start making miniature porn here... keep it tasteful of course... But you do make some of the best feminine curves out there (of all the patreons I back), in lots of different body sizes and shapes. Keep that up! and consider the odd clothing-off option for some models where it makes sense. And again... keep it tasteful... I don't want a model to look like it's scared out it's mind with it's clothing stolen/torn off... more, taken things off willingly to be playful/seductive etc :P I'll try to think up some more... but this is probably already a 3page essay knowing me... so I'll leave it there :P

I personally joined because of your art style. its kinda whimsical and refreshing. The Goblin Queen is one of my favourite pieces that you have done. Keep up the good work! I like when artists provide variety in their releases. I could care less about centaurs or snake people or weird beast looking hybrids. There are so many patreons that focus on that stuff, or worse they only focus on 1 race for the whole release and they really just don't get it. It’s smarter to do a theme and incorporate a couple niche races or character types while still having humans as the main element in practical poses. Especially when doing pinups. Who in their right minds wants to see some strange beast lady as a pinup? Also having various clothing options for the pinups is neat, because the person can choose which version they want. I feel that a Patreon should provide at least 6 minis. 8-10 is preferred. it's easy to provide more by changing the pose of the figure. Honestly the more figures the better for me. So I enjoy the crossovers, free mini content. Multiple poses for a character scores hi for me. Because I can then use the different figure in different situations. I also like loyalty rewards if they are actually worth it. The more epic the more likely I am to stick around. A loyalty reward should be worth three months in my opinion. Multiple figures or a choice of some older release. Again the more things you can offer the easier it is to keep people like me around. Best of luck!

WarjackedsWorkshop

Personally what keeps me subscribed to a Patreon for STLs is a combination. You've got the newest bane covered and that's MyMiniFactory integration. I know I've had you have to a couple times in the past help me recover lost STLs for some reason or another with my hardware issues and it covers it. XD Another that's been talked about in here is Loyalty Rewards. They're cool to see though one thing that's hard to manage that some sculptors do is tell the Patrons they have to be subscribed for a certain three months. To me you had this covered in the past with how you had monthly exclusive alternates for subscribing that month. It killed it when we couldn't buy them later on but maybe putting one of them in a monthly throwback for the Patrons that missed it kills both hassles of tracking who's subscribed how long and possibly pull some people in to get an exclusive they missed. Themes is another. I like your art style how whimsical in some way with you do your models though themes tend to pull me longer especially if I can use like say for instance five of the same race for a game session or Open Model Game System. You've definitely got dynamic poses down pact to me. As others have stated I'd rather less models with better poses than like twenty models with good detail than lame poses. I mean on Graphtreon Titanforge is holding the number one spot and they do good detail but even their sculptors get a sort of mental block with poses and alot of models are just standing around battle ready lately while maybe one or two are actually running or something here and there. It's the same with several Patreons and Kickstarters I typically back and alot of them I never print and they just sit since no one's interested in them. Definitely awesome work again since you've got both poses and detail downpact. Never have errors with the prints either compared to random ones every now and then. More recent I had was with one was where they didn't close off certain parts of a model and ZBrush will do the inside geometry thinking it needed to be there and this leads to holes in models. When brought up they saw it as it printed ok for them so no need to fix it yet I kept seeing the error and it's begging me to drop them in the back of my mind. lol You have your previews and wip done pretty good to me as well as having the files on the first of the month. I've got a couple I'm contemplating dropping since they're behind releasing the files all the time a couple of which did it the last couple days of last month. At least the backers got their models is what alot say but any time there's a Merchant Tier it's a month wasted to them to me as they never got the full month with the newer files. Personally while typing this to me your Patreon is good as is maybe use the backer count for stretch goals and see if you can afford to add an extra model with them here and there. It feels like you're one person running the Patreon so wouldn't overdo it but it might be another thing holding it down. As is though as stated with your detail and poses I'm fine with your work. ^_^

Can always use another base pack for kitbashing :)

Dexter

Personally painting contest give me that extra motivation now to stick around, even though I never end up entering till now lol. I had to tighten up the amount I spend on STL files because I found I was almost never printing 95% of them, Having that extra engagement with the community gets me printing and painting. I Also really enjoy having different versions of models to choose to print. A slight change to a outfit or a pin up version, a different hair style or facial expression can go so far to make a model I am slightly interested in, into one I have to have.

Joey D

"Who in their right minds wants to see some strange beast lady as a pinup? " You'd be surprised at some of the crazy things people have as fetishes and what they get off on ;)

Joey D

Here's another... - Less humans (BORING, and done to death!), more interesting races, especially the lesser known or unique ones

BigKittyPaints

its tough, I have my Patreon budget, so I have a few that never change (you, BitetheBullet, ArtisanGuild) and then 20 dollars or so that I let float around, picking up the monthly releases I like the best. The biggest thing that keeps me subbed is art style, If I like the style I will stay subbed to show my support even if I have little need for that months models. Im also big on community, BtB for example has the best community, very open communication and open to suggestions, etc. I do enjoy that part of your Patreon a lot, the fact that you listen and take our votes. The other thing is usefulness, I am a DungeonMaster and I gravitate toward characters that inspire me, some that I see and they seem to automatically find a place in my world. (Your Frog Knight, for example) I do think the voting can be a double-edged sword though, you will have people who leave because their votes didnt get selected, etc. I personally like a bit more structured (themed is a rough word) release, even if you deviate from it somewhat. Even something like Oops all horns is a kind of structure. Something like "each release will contain 3 units, 1 pinup, 1 hero, 1 monster" etc. FOMO also keeps people hooked with 3 month loyalty rewards that are only available through loyalty. Stay subbed for 3, 6, 9 consecutive, get this exclusive model.

SinoCenturion

One thing that I think will help you is more exposure. You should be posting your work on public forums that focus on STL minis. A good place would be the Reddit subreddit r/printedminis, which has over 60K subscribers. They allow creators to make one post a week showcasing their latest releases. I see many creators do this, and this is also how I find out about new Patreon creators.

Sune Grävling

The sole reason I first joined was the goblin paladin. I admit while it is an excellent model itself I was dissapointed in the lack of extra poses, one generic standing pose would've been grand. And why I feel this way is because I don't find it worth printing more then one of each mini so far. While I'd really like to print out a small squad of paladin goblins as an example it doesn't really look that good when the whole squad looks the same. Now this doesn't mean 3 - 5 poses just one basic standing pose one could kitbash. Other then that I am very happy with what you are currently doing. I love the style you got and I am all for more painting contests. Even if I didn't even join in on the first one, now that I have a functioning printer again however. Not a real fan of pools though, as mention before I find it brings uneeded drama and dissapointment.

I doubt I bring anything new to the table. but here comes a long, rambling list of points anyway. - My first consideration for a 3d sculpting Patreon is always going to be aesthetics. I joined because I love your sculpting and sense of design. Part of that is deciding what I am going to be using the miniatures for. In my mind, there are three categories. Art pieces, RPG minis, and wargaming minis. I look for different things in a mini I want to display on my shelf, vs one that will show up in my D&D campaign, or one I need to print 40+ of for a wargaming army. For me, Twin Goddess minis are firmly in the category of art pieces, though there is occasional cross over to RPG minis. Actually, I found the Twin Goddess Patreon when I was looking for minis to print for my D&D players. Still, I am never going to have a kobold mariachi band or a Goblin nurse with a giant needle in my campaign, but I do want to paint them. -The next big consideration is value. When the number or quality of sculpts drops and/or the cost spikes, I'd have to reevaluate, but that hasn't been a problem with Twin Goddess Miniatures. I'm pretty cheap, and Twin Goddess is the most expensive Patreon I sub to, but for the quality of the work I've haven’t regretted it. - One thing that will definitely kill a Patreon for me is poor printabilty. Sculpts that haven't been test printed and turn out to be nearly unsupportable. Sadly there are a lot of 3d sculptors out there who make cool designs, but don't print or paint, resulting in things that look good as renders but either have unprintable details or convoluted poses that don't work in the real world. Again, not something that has ever been a problem here, but it is one of the things that would make me reevaluate a pledge. - Loyalty bonuses are tricky and if they aren't handled well they can make potential new members feel like second class citizens. The problem is that the heart of exclusives is exclusion. Being told that there is something special available, but only if I sub for X months or jump through these hoops, doesn't get me excited, it tends to piss me off. That actually affected me here, and delayed my membership by months. One of the first sculpts I saw for Twin Goddess was the young cleric, and I really wanted to paint up the magical girl variant for myself, but it was already August of the year that shall not be named when I found the Patreon. When I found out that it was a limited time exclusive that was no longer available, it didn't make me want to sign up. It felt like a middle finger saying screw you, you can never have this, so I put my money elsewhere. Obviously that changed when she was included in the welcome box, but it took actually printing up the Twin Goddess samurai from the Pit Fighter Kickstarter to change my mind and draw me back. - The same goes for polls. Over use of polls creates art by committee, and art by committee is a dismal failure. I have never been interested in paying money to be subjected to the aesthetics of the mob. I have walked away from supporting several artists over the years who stopped making their own art and just regurgitated whatever the loudest voice in the room was yelling. That doesn't mean you don't take community suggestions/likes into account of course, but seeing a bunch of "what should I do next" polls on a Patreon doesn't make me want to throw money at it. - The two things I would like to see, though neither is a deal breaker for me, is more interchangeable pieces on some minis, and more risque/pin-up sculpts. For minis that might see play in a D&D campaign, being able to switch weapons or equipment is always a nice touch and adds a lot of utility and reprintability. Then of course, there are pinups, especially pinups that we don't see all that often. I would love to see a few sexy goblin pinups, as I really enjoy your approach to goblins. There are also very few male pinups out there that aren't ridiculous meme worthy garbage. To be clear, I'm looking for pinups not porn, and I wouldn't want everything to become pinups, but I wouldn't object to a little nudity or NSFW on occasion.

Anonymous

PS, Twin Goddess Miniatures is the Patreon I am most satisfied with right now, so two big thumbs up and keep up the good work.

Jupp3

Few more things I like: -More relaxed approach to kitbashing etc. (for comparison, see how much Artisan Guild restrict their model usage) -Models have more than enough details for scaling them bigger (I often prefer doing that) Things that could use improvement: -Models aren't easy to support. There has been noticeable improvement in this last month (haven't yet printed this months' models), but I assume small decisions like "start hair from body, and not 1mm above it leaving difficult to support gap" -At least for me, the presupported files fail very often (especially some older, harder-to-support ones), no big deal, I just do my own supports in chitubox (just thought to mention this, as presupports are kind of pointless, if most people have problems with them) Some future ideas: -Different hand options (Grub holding fish instead of spatula) and such - could also make supporting and printing easier. Feels like goblin queen would have been easier to print (and paint), if the head was separate. -Mounts (Totally different mounts and riders, if you could make every rider fit every mount, that could be... Wacky)

daniel

your doing great already, your art style alone is so different compared to others that you stand out so much.

Christian Martinez

I feel like this is mostly on the community and if they like your suggestion/if it's a good suggestion.

TreeSauce

I'm either looking for things that I can immediately use in the games I'm playing, or something completely unique that I just can't say no to. You consistently are in the latter category and I love you for it

Anonymous

I love just printing out random things from you and getting them painted, usually I want things that I can add to an army, but simply having an interesting assortment of characters you don’t often see is merit enough.

Grey

I wouldn't mind seeing busts added to the roster. That is one of the things that attracts me to some of the other Patreon creators.

Planet Trendy

Loyalty Rewards seem to be the go to. If you were to do some, some "collectible figurine" larger scale models could be a good call for your style in particular. Alternatively, you could throw a curveball by making the loyalty reward be a one-off modular unit. A unit of town guards in the style of that illustration you did of your wife's character would probably get a few people to stick around and it wouldn't bog you down with a modular release as part of your normal monthly release.

Anonymous

I really dislike loyalty rewards because I rarely see them working well in other patreons I’m in. I get that there should be a reward for sticking with it for a period but locking it behind a time capsule requires people to keep up with it.

Jbdemonoid

I'm looking for Patreon with styles of characters I like. Easy library and file management is a must. I was a Patreon of several places that I really liked but they used Sync to deliver their models and it just took hours a month to try and obtain the models including updates and fixes to existing files it was just a part time job. I usually am looking for PC characters over Mobs. I enjoy the quality/tasteful nsfw model options. And finally I really like getting all of the customizing bits (extra weapons and such). I am a very amateur sculptor in that I can cut and combine existing models to get the models I like with the equipment I need. If I could ask for one more thing you could do is to make painting test plates to try out things or practice before painting the models directly.
