This movie has the flaw that every marvel movie has. And it is studio interface. There is a great movie here that was cut down because people were tried of three hour movies. You want it to be understandable why she hasn’t helped hala and not be made stupid and why she hasn’t been back, give her and Monica an emotional confrontation where Capt. Marvel comes to the realization that she has been avoiding her responsibilities because she didn’t know how to fix it. Her powers are flying around punching things not geopolitical diplomacy or creating atmosphere, so she focused on problems she could solve across the universe punching bad guys becoming a hero to trillions as she dealt with the trama of reliving her entire life and gaining her emotions back. That conversation would make her more relatable, doesn’t insult her powers, intelligence, or character, while repairing the characters relationships in the movie. Toneally it would be a little jarring but it could work if you center the movie around that.
