Hi guys, how are you? Let me introduce myself: I am "O Ilusionista", founder of BrazilMugenTeam and one of the oldest active programmers in Mugen since 1999.

I did a quick post on Twitter to talk about a new project VirtuallTek is doing (MUGENext, a Mugen 1.2 engine) and due to my bad English some people interpreted it in a negative way so I caught up with Lasombra to explain a few things.

As you can see, Mugen is something that has always amused me. So much so that I ended up getting involved in the development of some tools, such as Paletero and Fighter Factory (since when it was called ZCHARcad) and today I am the main beta tester of the program because its author is a personal friend of mine.

Unfortunately, Elecbyte is gone and I doubt it will come back, leaving us with an easy-to-use engine, but with several problems. Including lack of documentation on some things, such as the SFF2 format, which made Virtualltek reverse engineer it to support this format in FF.

Why am I writing this?

I recently posted on twitter to announce that Virtualltek has decided to show the public something I already knew about (as a beta tester): MUGENext, an engine that intends to be a 1.2 version of Mugen. Initially, just that.

When I said "an engine closer to Mugen than Ikemen" it was by no means an insult to the IKEMEN developers as I even have friends on the team. My intention was just to say that the creator's idea is basically to be a mugen 1.2, maintaining compatibility and just fixing bugs initially.

In the future, we can add new things, of course. But that's not the intention right now.

Ikemen is fantastic and has added amazing things, but we have no plans to be "rivals" to anyone. We just want to be another option and to be something simpler to use, for those who don't want something bigger and more far-fetched.

It's just that: A bug-fixed Mugen 1.2.

Answering some questions:

"can this be considered a diss towards IKEMEN? lol"

No, it never was. People need to stop being passionate and treat everything like a console war, like a rivalry.

Rivalry doesn't build bridges - burn them :)

"In fact, I think the person behind the Twitter post isn't even in the team."

Actually yes. I am the main beta tester for the engine.

"From what I understood from the Patreon post, they just want to make like an update to M.U.G.E.N, but more in the "keeping-the-legacy" kind of way. Like when you remaster an old movie or videogame."

Exactly. That's the idea.

"They don't want to compete with IkemenGO (at least for now), they just want to make their own stable and updated version of MUGEN."

Exactly.

"Also it's interesting how they really want to waste their time, heh. At the day it's just a lesser clone."

For some people this may be a waste of time, for others it may not, just as for some people a new mugen, be it IKEMEN or MUGENext, is a waste of time.

If everyone thought like that, no one would ever do something new :)

"Then what the hell was the point of making Fighter Factory Studio anyway? Are they that lazy?"

It was having an all-in-one tool to work with Mugen. During development, Virtualltek had to do a lot of things from scratch, like practically recreating Mugen to add the debug system in FF (which practically recreates Mugen inside FF, and you can run the content inside the tool, as happens in scenario viewer.

I don't think it was laziness :)

I hope any misunderstandings have been cleared up. If by any chance anyone was offended by the way I spoke on twitter, I apologize, but that was not my intention :)

Let's create together, not apart :)
