Sorry this is a couple of days late, a lot of people responded to this with really thoughtful answers so there was a ton of data to comb through!!

PLEASE NOTE: This took me a bit longer than expected, so this week's patron-only audio for Cornflower and above will be made tomorrow instead! <3

In the end, we had 118 responses from the community, and reading through them I found that they mainly fit into seven categories: Acting, Editing, Kink Preferences, Length, Mic Quality, and Pacing. Obviously, several responses fit into multiple categories as responses mentioned multiple things that annoy them. Outliers that don't fit into any of these categories have been included at the end!

Out of 45 responses that had to do with Acting:

  • A whopping 16 responses mentioned high-pitched/anime/uwu voice as one of their top pet peeves. This was the #1 most disliked thing among responders overall, tied with volume problems (see "Editing" category!)
  • 12 responses mentioned monotone voices or a lack of inflection while speaking.
  • 11 responses mentioned getting annoyed when the performer doesn't make it clear (either by using SFX or describing it) what sex acts are being performed or what position the listener and the speaker are supposed to be in. However, several of these responses did add that "less is more," and overly-detailed descriptions of the action (especially when it's said in a way that people wouldn't normally talk during real sex) were listed as another pet peeve by 6 responders.
  • 8 responses talked about being specific when referring to details about the listener (some examples included drink preferences, what the listener is wearing, and memories the speaker shares about the listener). Out of 8 responses, 3 people said they liked when the performer was more specific. (One response elaborated: "I get the rationale [of being vague], but it pulls me out of it more than just imagining that I’m named Jeff and love martinis would.") 5 people said they preferred it when the performer was more vague, citing concerns about the performer using a name for the listener that would take them out of the mood (like a family member's name or an ex's name), or taking them out of the moment with a physical description that doesn't match them.
  • 4 responses mentioned fake accents, with fake Southern USA accents specifically used as their least favorite example in all four! 1 response mentioned also disliking fake British accents.
  • 3 responses spoke about disliking "excessive" moaning.
  • 3 responses mentioned disliking aggressive blowjob sounds.
  • 2 responses mentioned a special dislike for badly-done growling or purring sounds.
  • 1 response mentioned feeling creeped out when a rough audio does not include aftercare or soothing at the end of the audio.
  • 1 response mentioned disliking when a performer over-enunciates their words.
  • 1 response expressed annoyance when there is too much laughter at the end of every other sentence.
  • 1  response lamented audios where the speaker orgasm is too short. "Ten seconds or more" was their recommendation.

Out of 37 responses that had to do with Editing:

  • 16 responses mentioned sudden volume changes, with speaking parts most frequently mentioned as being too low and SFX most frequently mentioned as being too soft. Two common examples listed were dramatic changes in volume levels between scenes/time-skips, and moaning too loudly. One responder expanded: "When I have to take my headphones off and adjust the volume in the middle of the sex part, it really pulls me out of it and kills the mood. It's really obvious that they didn't listen while editing."
  • 10 responses mentioned disliking bad kissing sounds, with descriptions including "too sharp sounding," and "like velcro being pulled apart." One responder suggested improving kissing sounds by making them "lighter and softer".
  • 7 responses mentioned disliking when there are SFX put in for the listener. Examples included footsteps, clothing removal sounds ("Why is the listener always wearing a belt and jeans?" asked one responder), or the listener interacting with objects.
  • 5 responses mentioned the use of bad sound effects, with bad/artificial sounding wet sounds being the most mentioned in 4 out 5 responses.
  • 5 responses mentioned background noise and "buzzing".
  • 3 responses mentioned audio clipping and popping sounds.

Out of 27 responses that had to do with Pacing:

  • 10 responses mentioned performers not pausing long enough after asking a question for the imaginary listener/other person to respond. One responder elaborated: "I like to really think of a response in my head, so it's jarring when someone just keeps talking again after 2 seconds and it breaks the immersion for me."
  • 8 responses said that they disliked when the story setup before sex starts was rushed. "I'd rather listen to 20 minutes of story and 10 minutes of sex than 10 minutes of story and 20 minutes of sex," added one responder.
  • 5 responses mentioned being annoyed by short foreplay.
  • 2 responses mentioned disliking when the listener is supposed to cum very quickly, with one responder specifically mentioning that it takes them out of the moment when they're expected to cum very quickly through penetration alone.
  • 2 responses mentioned their immersion breaking when the male listener is supposed to be a virgin, but they last a very long time in bed on their first try.
  • 1 response mentioned disliking when an audio moves too quickly in between different actions during sex, jumping from "clothed to nude, or foreplay to BJ...it's hard to make the transition immersive when folks are dropping outfits at supersonic speeds."
  • 1 response mentioned being very confused when an audio launches directly into sex without any description of what is happening, just moaning.
  • 1 response mentioned being annoyed when the performer doesn't make it clear when the listener orgasms in the story, and then being surprised by the outro of the audio starting all of a sudden.

Out of 17 responses that had to do with Kink Preferences:

  • 10 responders reported being surprised and repulsed by kinks that were not tagged properly. Examples included impreg, ball fondling, and hair pulling.
  • 6 responders specifically disliked incest and step-incest.
  • 5 responders mentioned not liking any kinks at all, preferring GFE/BFE style vanilla audios.
  • 3 responders specifically disliked rape and non-con play.
  • 2 responders specifically disliked cheating.
  • 2 responders specifically disliked yandere audios.

Out of 9 responses that had to do with Mic Quality:

  • Most responses did not elaborate on this answer, but 2 responses mentioned disliking listening to collab audios where the performers had starkly different mic quality.

All 3 responses that had to do with audio Length stated that they preferred longer audios with time to set up a good story.

Responses that didn't fit into any particular category included 1 responder who felt annoyed that the characters in audio almost never use condoms, and 1 responder who was annoyed when posters use cutesy/silly tags.

Since the "What are your favorite things that are common in audio porn?" question on the poll was optional, not everyone answered, but many people did! Here were some of the most common responses:

  • The versatility of audio porn. It isn't limited by what's actually possible, so there's a lot of different scenarios you can explore in audio porn that you could never do in visual/video porn.
  • MOANS
  • When someone sounds like they are truly enjoying themselves and having fun
  • Storytelling and building a believable, immersive world
  • Neediness
  • Thoughtful little SFX that immerse the listener in the world of the audio, like doors shutting and beds creaking
  • Prevalence of audios for male listeners that include established relationships, affection, cuddling, and comfort, which male viewers don't always get from mainstream porn.
  • Wholesomeness of many audios
  • Dirty talking
  • The sense of authenticity that comes with listening to someone act out emotions and arousal at their own pace
  • Many people mentioned that audio porn feels much more intimate, loving, and believable for them than mainstream porn
  • Believable development of relationship/story between the listener and the performer so that the sex feels authentic and satisfying
  • Whispers
  • Really good wet sounds
  • Access to gender neutral content
  • Open to people of all tastes, no budget/skill/experience required

Thank you so much to everyone who responded!! I hope you find the results interesting and maybe even useful! <3 If you missed the poll, feel free to share more of your thoughts in a comment!

You know what grinds my gears, if there is an audible diffirence between the sfx quality and the mic quality, like just make your mic not sound like the inside of a tin can.

I'm definitely in the "less is more" camp when it comes to saying what is happening in a scene, but I do think there are ways to be descriptive that are hot and not immersion breaking. Like, instead of saying "I've got your hands pinned above your head" or whatever something like "Do you like the way I'm pinning your hands down?" works much better for me. It's still descriptive and lets the listener know what's happening but it doesn't just come across like narration between dialogue.

I'm in agreement with less is more. I'm trying to be immersed not listening to an audio book. Put me in the shoes of the listener, not a watcher.
