I always liked this episode because it shows off a few of the tribulations of youth. One of those is standing up to yourself to one of your mentors. That's not easy. The other is that it's sometimes hard to realize that your mentor that you look up to isn't the best role model for any situation. Plus I've always thought the Derby Racer song was really catchy. Definitely gets caught in my head occasionally.

And for our daily dose of character assassination We were alright, up until they started actually building the carts on their own, and tearing apart any contribution the CMC tried to make. None of those 3, not even RD, are *that* insensitive Granted the writers didn't have too many options with which to tell this type of story, but it still hurts. Lotta people from the fandom despise this episode for that reason, and while the friendship lesson is good, I can't really disagree. I'VE GOT IT! They shoulda done this in Equestria Girls, with the main cast's parents On the note of the lesson, personally, I'm lucky to not have to had to suffer through this. Both of my parents didn't really set up expectations for me to meet. My dad works in aerospace, and so do I, as a machinist. We even work for the same company But I didn't go for that career to please them, or because it was expected of me. It's just the way my passion and skills went Come to think of it, really my whole life, my mentors, teachers, and even peers haven't tried to tell me what to do or anything. Maybe I'm just really good at choosing which people to let near me Or maybe the passion I have for the things I want to do, and the skills to back it up, shine so unbelievably brightly that nobody *dares* try to tell me to do anything other than what I already want to do lol. So maybe, the real takeaway is confidence. You're the only person who gets to make decisions in how you live your life, so act like it, and make sure those around you know that you know it!
