Soooooooooo Let's rank the mane 6 in terms of empathy as displayed in this episode Or ig 5 because Fluttershy doesn't need to be a part of this Eh, I'll toss in Spike #5: Rainbow Dash I need not elaborate, she was being a jerk the entire time #4: Applejack and Pinkie Both are mostly supportive, but lack a certain awareness of Fluttershy's limits, immediately jumping to the conclusion that, if Fluttershy is not in her cottage, she wants to do *all* the nightmare night things too #3: Spike He was just kinda there. He did help to give Fluttershy a confidence boost at the beginning, and then didn't do anything to put Fluttershy down, so good job. Sometimes staying quiet and letting others carve their own path is a good strategy. #2: Twilight Twilight was the first of the mane 5 to show concern that Fluttershy was out at nightmare night, and make sure she was ok. There were points where she was.. shall we say, condescending. But she was always on Fluttershy's side. And she came up with the "you scare us" idea Which.. at first didn't work, at all And then didn't work because Fluttershy just doesn't like seeing her friends scared But it was a better idea than either "hang out with us and suffer" or "I guess you gotta go then" She tried, and helped the others (the others being RD, Applejack and Pinkie) to respect Fluttershy's limits, and try to guide the group to mellowing things down #1: Rarity Rarity was very quick to *try* to shut down Rainbow's mocking, and the first (other than Spike) to show support in Fluttershy simply hanging out. Emphasis on hanging out, and not specific activities *Pinkie...* Rarity also helped Fluttershy get into the spirit of things with a costume, responding to Fluttershy's needs, and, more importantly starting off by ruling out scary costumes, showing a level of understanding *certain ponies* lack *Cough Rainbow Dash* Other than that, like Spike, apart from positive things to say, she mostly kept her mouth shut, speaking up only to provide advice and encouragement to Fluttershy, and provide affirmation that she was enjoying Fluttershy's company. Which is why Rarity gets empathy first prize in this episode. Twilight was close, but, honestly, ran her mouth a bit too much by saying things that did not need to be said As an aside, they were playing "Pin the horn on the alicorn" And.. how does Rarity's "headless pony" costume work? It's literally just a cloak. In order for it to be a costume for the headless pony, it must, somehow, clearly get rid of the head in some way in order for the costume to be clear. There are implications with that specific costume, I suspect Rarity put more work in the aspect of magic than stitching on that one "Did I ever tell you about the night that the manikin came to life and haunted all the costumes?" "What happened?" "I just told you darling, a manikin came to life, haunted all the costumes" Sometimes, it's really just that simple, it makes more sense in a horror movie context lmao Or in a dream It is important to remember that Rarity has more or less experienced this one

My cognitive dissonance is watching horror movies, I want to try watch them because I'm learning about cinema history and film editing but at the same time even if I've watched some before I'm just too scare to watch alone horror movies that I don't know when screamers will appear, that's a classic and the point of it but I can't help myself x)
