Princess Luna

Where did the last three episodes from season 4 went off ? :c

Julio Castillo

Season 5 it's definitely the point where the series leaps into more darker and serious tones when it comes to the stories and themes it tells, it won't give up the colorful and uplifting stories about friendship of course.... But it's really cool to see the show committing to tell more interesting and deep tales. Also... Kelly Sheridan does an amazing Job as the Antagonist Starlight Glimmer, you wouldn't even thought that she was the official voice of Barbie for more than a Decade.

Lol when you immediately recognized that community as a cult! Good job, have a cookie! 😉 (Alot of us back in the day had likened it to communism, while the rest of us corrected saying it's more "neo-Marxist" or, like you said, "cult".) Welcome to Season 5 (i.e. the "Season of Feels"), where the team takes everything they had going for in season 4 in terms of storytelling, themes and maturity, and more fully realizes it! This is my personal favorite season (for many of us too, really). There's just many points in it that break me, make me say "this is so awesome!", and mean a lot to me. (Liquid pride, man!) ☺️

I've never encountered anybody who equated communism with the death of individualism, outside of people who define communism as "Anything I don't like" and change the subject when you ask for a better explanation of what exactly it is. Harrison Bergeron was never a story about communism or socialism. The only places I've ever seen the idea of trying to make people think and be the same is cults or religious organizations. Especially seeing the braided hair reminds me of some of the religious organizations in the US.

What we saw here was a bad socialism (sick version of it). My parents told me (and we learned it in history class in school) that there was some time when people literally lived like this in the USSR. Later that sick version of socialism was rebuilt a little bit and it became much better. There are two ways to understand socialism and both ways are displayed in this show. One way is that all people are equal and we saw it in this episode when people suffer from this equality and want to get rid of it because they don't feel like they have their personalities any more. But the right understanding of it is that every person has to be appreciated by society (like it doesn't matter if you have a prestigious job, or if you have much money, or what else - anyway you are a person and you deserve some respect). And this socialism works perfectly in Ponyville :) I love this episode because it shows us that we can get a really good idea but corrupt it by getting too far with it and implementing an extreme version of it.

Also something I noticed but didn't comment until now, I'd recommend taking a few minutes and rewatching the song Our Town - I think you missed one of the most impactful lines of the whole song, that really sums up the being safe like everybody else mentality.
