By the end of the series you'll have met every parent/sibling of the Mane Six and learned a lot about them. Twilight is named after her mom Twilight Velvet, who we met in season one's flashback, and Pinkie Pie worked on a rock farm. We'll meet everyone else's families later.

The main thing I remember back when this episode came out is the big Argument in the fandom over whether it was a good idea or not to make Daring Do a real pony instead of a fictional character. At least part of the 'bad idea' side was bolstered by an Easter Egg the official comics had introduced (another reason the comics aren't canon!) that AK Yearling was the pen-name of Twilight Sparkle's mother, Twilight Velvet, through awards for the series on her wall. This episode was seen as a retcon and widely disliked... and then time passed and everyone just got used to it and stopped caring, like when Twilight got wings. Either that or they left! I know several people who stormed out of the fandom in a rage after Twilight's wings, but I think "the Daring Do retcon" was just an annoyance after all of that drama! Incidentally, I was initially on the 'bad idea' side, because I liked the idea of Twilight being such a big fan BECAUSE her mother wrote it, and keeping it a secret to surprise Rainbow with later... but hey, the canon as it turned out from here is just fine as it is. :)

Um, yeesh! When you put it that way, I think you'd need even more clarification and nuance! You don't just tell someone they should do what they want regardless of how others feel! 😶‍🌫️😅 (though I'm pretty sure you didn't really mean it like that. You're a reasonable and thinking Hooman Bean!)
