The interesting thing about this episode is that it establishes Rarity is an artist first and foremost. I don't like high fashion either, but Rarity isn't IN high fashion, she's just into designing dresses and making ponies beautiful and confident in their appearance. The real moral of the story is the other five learning to trust her skill as an expert. Her character is especially brilliant because she was included only on order of Hasbro, who wanted one of them to be into fashion; Lauren Faust didn't like that, so turned the whole concept on its head by making Rarity a trendsetter instead of a follower... an artist whose canvas just happened to be clothing.

Sharing Heart

I honestly did like Rarity from the start, because, even though she's so posh, girly, and dramatic, she doesn't think she's better than those who aren't. In fact, she showed herself to be quite caring from the start, breaking a lot of stereotypes for this type of character. Still, after realizing that Rarity is also the stand-in character for artists of all kind, she quickly became on of the top characters for me. It was great seeing you make that connection as well, comparing her dressmaking to your music-making. She might not be my favorite, but she's an amazing character in her own right.
