Idk the dates or the facts, but I think after the WW2 end, with the little time when americans soldiers where in France, some musical exchange where made (and surely some babies too). Mais je sais avec certitude, que dans les années 60, 70 et peut-être un peu les années 80, il était courant aussi de "prendre" une chanson et de l'adapter dans d'autres pays, c'est comme ça que "House of The Rising Sun" (The Animals ) est devenu "Le Pénitencier" (Johnny Halliday) ou "Comme d'habitude" (Claude François) est devenu "My Way" (Sinatra, Elvis...). So, definitely, France also had a certain era of music too. Coming back to Emilie Simon, I compared her to Bjork in my first comment, but after listening again, it's more of a Kate Bush influence that I hear in her music and her singing. So maybe it has to do with that as well. And just to finish, I took a song in French from her to bring back some of my language, but she also has some in English if you are interested.
