I’m getting antsy to watch the volume finale reactions 👀

About the chocking and shifting leg.... yes yes you can do that but you need to train for that. In fight or flight the body does what it has been trained to do. If you have not spent excessive time on practicing each of the things your body will most likely react with panic. He isn’t thinking oh I got this move I can do, he is thinking ‘I am being chocked, I don’t want to die’ probably. So his attention is on the hands not on the balance.

I’m crying at the “bRoTHeR” like YOU TELL HIM HOOMAN Also, don’t forget to listen to the ost in the background! Ik how much the song Smile moved you, and it’s Ilia’s song, and it plays in the background often in certain scenes. I like to call the ost instrumentals “emotional context” when they play in scenes.

The team at Rooster Teeth had a joke going around the office where it was a picture of Blake saying "Humans didn't do this, I did this" because... she did if she didn't start that fire the house wouldn't have been as bad as it was. And because of that I cant see that scene without thinking about it.

"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." - John 15:13, NIV True love is not what is told to us today by most media and advertisements. It's not just about the feelings. It's about doing what is best for others, even when it's difficult. Feelings come and go. Those you love most are going to betray you at one time or another. True love is a huge risk, because we're all human and are going to hurt each other, whether it be intentional or unintentional. True love goes beyond circumstantial feelings and does what is right for the other person. True love forgives; true love gives the other a second chance; true love is a choice and a commitment. This is probably what Ghira meant when he said that Blake learned "there is strength in forgiveness." To forgive someone - to sacrifice our feelings and personal desires for the sake of showing love to them - that goes against our nature as humans. True love and true strength are revealed when we choose to say no to ourselves and yes to loving them unconditionally.

The technical term is leitmotif! I also picked up an interesting bit from Red Like Roses Part 1 of the "Yellow beauty burns gold" bit when Blake was talking to Ilia, giving a bit of insight into where Blake's mind is at that moment.

I love Ilias character because she almost represents what Adam could have been. They both show the two paths of a “misguided character” and you can see through the episodes so far, where these differences lie and why Ilia is capable of redemption. For me it came down to empathy. From what we’ve seen so far Adam has shown no empathy for others whereas Ilia at least showed empathy towards Blake.

Another thing to remember about Ilia is that she's about 18 here, has been with the White Fang for 4-5 years and her family is dead. So the White Fang has been all she's had since she was like 13, when she says she doesn't know what else to do she means it, where else was she supposed to go as they continued to go ferther and ferther of the rails?

Yeah and he's basically just a security guard, not a trained fighter like a huntsman

I saw my mother sacrifice everything for me and my siblings, to the point of barely eating and crying at night. She would never let it show that she was struggling, mentally and emotionally, to keep going while being a mother, working and dealing with an abusive boyfriend (mental abuse). She has been my hero ever since I can remember, because no matter what, her love for us was what kept her going. Even with depression and suicidal thoughts, she kept pushing, kept enduring everything she could for us. And I know many would say "Well, she's a mother, it's her job." Please do keep in mind that there's sadly not that much mothers who would do this. From what I have seen in life, there's not. Because if they can't be strong for themselves, then they can't for their kids. My mother was, and still is, extremely strong in my eyes. Because she kept fighting for us. And even today, as I am now an adult living my life, her strength still helps me to keep moving and to keep working on making my own life better. Her unconditional love for us, her strength and her courage, inspired me to do the same, and be the best person that I can be. In reflection with RWBY, what Ghira did is exactly what a loving parent would do. Save someone they care about, as their own.

First time watching through this I didn't catch the "two weeks until Haven attack" even tho RWBY and gang was gonna have it happen the next night. Turns out the Blake story took place first!

I recommend you watch the last 3 episodes in one go so you don’t loose context

The "Strength in forgiveness" line kind of hits different this time even though this is like my 5th time rewatching this episode. No matter how messed or abhorrent a person's past actions or words, if their willing to change and are genuinely sorry for what they did and want to make it right, to say their irredeemable is the weaker/easier option. To forgive and move forward is what really takes strength, to look past what someone was to see what they could be.

The bit about Oz's cane was in response to fan theories that it was a relic.

Sick Editor Matt brings up an interesting point with people disliking volume 5 because of the pacing. I personally never had an issue with it because I viewed each volume almost like a movie or separate arcs that are meant to come to an end by the end of the volume as a whole. Volumes 1-3 is the completion of that first Arc: Volume 1 is the indirection meant to make us understand and care for our heroes. Volume 2 is the setup of the bigger plot and exposition of the world as a whole with bits like Ironwood leading another nations army and academy similar to Beacon, the explanation of incidents like Mountain Glenn that explain how hard it is to expand the kingdoms without heavy loss of life, and with the villains being fleshed out more. Volume 3 is the execution of the villains plans. The Fall of Beacon, the true intent behind Cinder's plots and the true introduction of the Maidens and magic within the world of Remnant. Volume 4 is the Recovery, it gives us the time to see where out heroes are at after such a traumatic experience and how they're coping ( or if they even are) while still building the larger world by splitting the team up to pretty much the 4 corners of the world. This is probably one of the weaker kinds of arcs standing alone, but without it moments like Yang coming back to the fight or Blake reuniting with her family and understanding where she needs to stand become rushed and would probably be received even worse. And that brings us to Volume 5, the Reunion. It is that slow meticulous reunion that nearly every viewer had wanted since the end of V4 that needs its time to be as impactful as possible. If Yang and Weiss met back up in episode 2, or if they had rushed it happen in V4, that hug wouldn't hit nearly as hard as it did ( I totally didn't cry the first or second time I saw it, shut up). It goes slow because you need to truly see how hurt Yang is at Blake's abandonment, Ruby's pain at Penny's loss coming through as she strives to be a better fighter and leader, Qrow's futile search for other Huntsman he and Oz can trust to show just how thorough the enemy is and how badly the Cowardly Lion is in Salem's grip. TLDR: While independent episodes or even some of the earlier volumes may seem slow or badly paced it was always meant to be viewed as one single story or one arc at a time that has to be chopped up into individual episode to watched

Ive trained in various martial arts for a little over 20 years now and while it is possible to shift and roll your way out of being mounted and choked like that its also is not easy if the person knows how to maintain the mount.

I think love in itself is sacrifice because to love something you have to give up space in your mind and give up peace of mind.
