So the audience didn’t see that Mercury was attacking Yang, so they just thought he broke his leg for no reason. I think the goal was just to invoke negative emotions from the audience (the Grimm are attracted to negative emotions so not necessarily fear). Oh boy are you in it now though. This episode throws a bunch of new law at you. In terms of your question: It really depends on the situation. When you live in a world where too much negativity attracts Grimm then you have to be very careful with what you publish to the population and when you think about it that would go for all of their media. However this is yet again something that you’ll come back to later in the series 😂

Lexi Rasmussen

To solve any confusion without spoiling anything: Lets just say what Yang saw vs what everyone else saw were two different scenarios. If you look back Mercury ran forward to attack Yang and she responded in self defense... However during the playback on the screen it showed mercury standing still and Yang circled him like a tiger then attacked without provoction; leading to the booing and military response which in turn all that negative energy attract the Grimm. You are meant to feel confused and will understand in the upcoming episodes. Btw I love watching your reactions to this show your energy is very contagious and brings a smile to my Friday evenings.

Well, David, let me say in advance “I’m Sorry”. Hold on to your seat for the ride ahead. It’s not for the faint of heart.

Without spoilers, I’ll say that there are two accounts of what led up to mercury’s leg being broken, what we the viewer saw where he attacked yang, and what the recording playback showed, of yang standing over him and attacking him unprompted. The grimm are attracted to all sorts of negative emotions, and the unrest in the crowd certainly got their attention. This is also the very distinct turning point for the series and the show handles various serious topics in depth from here on out. Hop on board the chaos train everyone!

The Grimm work off of negative emotions~

Good writing has a beat to it, and much like the beat of good music, is best when consumed as the creators presented it. Unfortunately I find that a lot of reactors change the beats of the stories because of pausing to discuss, or talking over dialog or action. Unfortunately, that's the nature of reactions. Things will get missed. In an ideal world, David and other reactors could watch an episode start to finish uninterrupted, and more than likely miss less things, but that doesn't lend to being a good reaction. We all have the gift of hindsight with these stories - we all know when the big things happen, and even the little things that end up being important - because we were able to watch these episodes on our own our first go around. And I'm sure many of us have rewatched this series countless times. Reactors don't have that hindsight, and worse still have their very first viewing recorded to be scrutinized forever. I don't envy any reactor.

Grimm are attracted to negative emotions, not just fear.

Welcome to the Hellcoaster. There is no getting off once you've hit this point.

Generally when it comes to politics (which the whole stuff around the Maidens and so on is imo), keeping secrets just defers and exacerbates a problem. People not only have a right to know but I also trust that when people have information they will fundamentally do the correct thing, broadly speaking. I see it as a matter of maintaining control vs. letting things take their course and letting the people decide. Sure, secrecy lets you maintain control for a while (and maybe forever!) but you yourself on your own are an extremely limited resource of knowledge, power etc. And who is to say you are right? Who is keeping you in check, providing you with other views and challenging your authority? The entire population is an expansive ocean of skills, knowledge, perspectives and so on that can be used for anything. There are other aspects for and against this argument that become relevant later into the show that I wont go into cuz spoilers. But lets say it is a good question to keep thinking about.

You missed the replay. According to the camera footage, she wasn't defending herself. He was just standing there after the fight was over, and Yang broke his leg completely unprompted. At least, that's what it looks like on the replay.

Bro I feel stupid, that was the first re-watch when I noticed what Ruby said before the match: "Break a leg, Yang" oh my godddd

Ok Now I see what I missed 😂😂😂 Youtube is going to have a feild day with this lol 😂😂😂

The Grimm are attracted to ANY negative emotion, and what the crowd saw and what Yang experienced were two very different things. Pay atttention over the next couple of episodes (which you've probably aready seen) because what actually happened is explained but not made obvious. This might also be a good time to suggest watching RWBY Chibi after the end of volume III. It's an excellent pallette cleanse. And Super Cute to Boot!

If It was me I'd just destroy the Atlas Machines, F the Beacon Laws. If I knew I did not do anything wrong I would not stand for it. I'd rather die to an atlas military than to "Stand Down" What a load of bull.

You thought this would just be a show about cute girls fighting monsters? Ha, time to get heavy
