I'm loving this so much. Varrick is one of my favorite characters, he's so damn funny... Tenzin is easily my fav in this show, his character is so great. Seeing that family picture at the end gets me choked up every time. As for the Avatar "staying neutral" you're right that it's mostly just Unalaaq trying to manipulate Korra to not go against him. You only need to look to the previous Avatars to show neutrality has never been the point. Aang fought against the Fire Nation as they were invading the world, Roku sought to stop Sozin from colonizing the world to begin with (and destroyed the palace when he showed defiance), and Kyoshi literally bent the plate tectonics and killed Chin the Conqueror when he threatened to take over her home. This situation with Korra mirrors that last one pretty well I think. Unalaaq is an oppressive invading force that threatens to throw things out of the natural balance, and it's her duty to prevent him from doing so.
