I honestly REALLY liked that first episode. It set so much up. They really recaptured a lot of the visual magic of GoT. I LOVE THE THRONE. I think Daemon's helmet is ridiculous. I'm angry they didn't do anything at all to ease Aemma's pain - they have the stuff for it - even if it's not modern painkillers. Very solemn yet epic start to the series.

Yeah watching Aemma's death scene was rough. It's so clear she was valued less than the baby, no milk of the poppy for the sake of the heir etc. Easily one of the most shocking scenes even by GoT standards

I think they(the Maesters), gave her as much "Milk of the Poppy"(essentially this universe's Morphine), as they could, without risking the child, atleast from their words. But yeah, even then the scene was absolutely horrific.

That was so messed up that Aemma wasn't told what was about to happen to her or even that nothing was put in her mouth to bite down on as they were about to cut into her. As a Doctor Who fan I am excited to see where Matt Smith goes with this role, he's already killing it.

i've not read the book, but i truly believe that hightower is the real villain. daemon has his own (very violent) methods, but you can tell he really loves his brother and niece... the scene when hightower is reporting what daemon said in the brothel ("heir for a day"), the show is very meticulous in how/ when they show what daemon says vs. what hightower relays. you see in that whole time daemon is actually said. it's only when his men and mistress tell him to make a speech that he puts on this act. i think everything that daemon says his brother in the throne room is his truth and said in his most sincere way, but as a violent, impatient person (and targaryen!), he can't help but only say it in his way. also, the woman in white was the woman/mistress/prostitute from the brothel.

also, "oh my word" is the most wholesome reaction to genitals getting chopped off. love it.
