Glad you stuck it out through the whole first season. I love that you can watch this series without having an inkling of what League is actually like and just enjoy a good story. I think some people are gonna be disappointed with your overall reaction but I mean, everyone is their own person and takes in media in their own way. Personally I didn't feel like most of the show was forced, it felt like a truly immersive world with characters that showed real depth, emotion and development with a story full of twists that left you guessing after each episode. Arcane was a breath of fresh air amidst dozens of other shows that just keep doing the same shit over and over again. As for Jinx - you have to remember that she faced incredible trauma as a child that continued into her teenage years and now that she's shimmer-infused everything is cranked up to 11 and beyond. Now we wait for season 2 which hopefully isn't years away!

Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate this show for what it is! And I would definitely agree that it's a breath of fresh air -- I've never seen animation quite like it! When I talked about it feeling forced, I mostly meant the scenario that brought our main characters together felt contrived, is all. And as for Jinx, I understand she's a fan favorite and I'll probably get torn apart for my opinion. I do understand her character, I just don't like her. I think she's over the top, and a rather stigmatizing and maybe even damaging portrayal of mental illness considering the young demographic of this show tbh

Yeah, I can see that. While Arcane has been something special for a lot of people, there are also people from quite a few marginalized communities who have felt some cheap shots thrown their way, as well as characters dealing with issues being showcased in such a negative light. So I can definitely understand how looking at Jinx especially might not be great for many people. I found her to be an interesting and tragic character but I'll admit I didn't look too deeply into it until after I was done watching the show.

There is a therapist series on YT that basically says Jinx mental issues are one of the best depictions shes ever seen and ive heard from this from all over reddit as well. Im lucky enough to only have ADD and nothing more serious so it was nice to see Jinx get so much praise for how accurate her portrayal was which is why this take was so far out of left field. You are about the only person I have personally seen who feels this way. There were essays and essays on reddit praising the show for how it handled issues and Jinx' mental health problems were one of the more praised aspects, but I have absolutely zero knowledge so interesting to hear you thought it was damaging.
