I think it has a lot to do with newer modern anime fans not having seen the older shonen. I’m always amazed at cons or in anime groups the amount of people who haven’t seen naruto or One Piece because it’s “too long”. Or won’t give it a chance cause it’s “too popular”. Fairy Tail doesn’t have much popularity in hentai either and it’s one of the most fan service mainstream shonen there is with a full cast of sexy women.
