i might name him mako which has many meanings, one of them is mako sharks literally, others mean shark in general in the maori language. theres multiple variations of mako (shark) but this is one of them. i think its a good name, short and easy to remember.

since he is in a coastal, sea based village, sharks are important as both for its cultural significance of their might, but also for what they can bring, such as their skin, meat, and teeth. they have a strong belief in respecting all the things they eat and use, making sure that nothing goes to waste. sharks are both bountiful but also mighty, so they are held in high regard. for every shark hunt, there is an accompanying tradition that follows. such as holding a small ceremony, giving it a 'meal' or preparing it in a special place. it all depends on what your family or village does in general, but it always emphasizes their gratitude and acknowledgement. there is a few sharks that are off limits, such as expectant ones, or especially young ones. even some species or bonded sharks (bonded with an imp, and therefore part of the family) .

anyways this is but another facet on the culture of coastal or island imps.

definitely be careful with sharks! sharks are known to be highly toxic to humans due to high mercury and chemicals accumulated through their lives from eating other fish- practically only the young ones are safe to eat. do the imps have a way to avoid mercury poisoning? or are they less vulnerable to it in general? (or it could just be a suspension of disbelief kinda thing, but thought it would be interesting to think about :] )

That’s a good point! I could say that imps not from coastal regions would not have an easy time or (safe for that matter) eating sharks in general. It could be the rituals themselves would make them edible, or all of the above, where coastal imps can handle it better and use traditions to keep it safer! I had no idea, but it makes complete sense why they would have high mercury levels, thank you for letting me know :D
