One of many monster boy stories. this one is about a society of hero's and villains, your typical supernatural world. problem is, this world also has a dark dark underbelly. the two main characters are residents of a town where all mutants go.

(this world has supernatural abilities that don't usually affect your appearance, things like traditional elemental powers, or basic strength enhancement and a few other things, but rarely if ever, will a human have mutant abilities, by birth or by unnatural means)

/read all my blabber if you wish /

a place where all victims of experimentation, whether by accident, by scientists, or by the great old government, (or by their own birthright) are sent to live out the rest of their days. of course, even getting accommodations by the government for their own abuses, was hell in of itself. most mutants, are neither powerful, nor automatically better. they are the reality of surviving. the effect is wide ranging, and no two people are the same,  however, they are a tight knit community that doesn't abandon their kind.

only a few of them can be considered "hero worthy"  and the main chara's friend/partner is. he is considered rather ominously, a "rad scientist's dream", a creation of superior abilities. ( this one was from a rogue scientist trying to make demons)  they always fail to note, and really care less to, that he lost so much more than he "gained" from becoming a mutant. small apologies and money does not solve the issue... that they fundamentally ignored his humanity in favor of displaying him as a fighting machine, a "Hero".

these are people too, as all of them were once, and will always be, human. the main character is called the "caretaker" for not only the friend, but for a few other residents. despite being with his friend and undergoing the same experience with him, he came out differently. though he realizes that this still undeniably changed him, like it did to his friend. he simply wants to live away from the claws of society, and enjoy simplicity for once.

the main dream sequence was him monologuing, going to support groups, and trying to peel the government away from getting their hands on his friend, who is known as a very good fighter. his friend himself, while looking oblivious, is extremely anxious and distrusts humans. he knows deep down that they are to never be listened to, and only value's the opinion of the person he holds some familiarity.

he has complicated feelings on who he was, the person that came before him now. he feels ignored because he was left with almost no memories, and had to re-learn the basics all over again. they just assumed that he can't think for himself, and left his rights outside the door. it was one of the biggest factors of conflict with the hero agency/government.

he doesn't know how to cope with the idea that a person, tangentially like him, existed, and was the source of all the memories he does have, and all the memories his friend (caretaker) has. that they see a "someone" that isn't him. it gives him a sense of imposter. he also knows that what they did to him, changed his interests. he likes to be destructive, an urge to topple and crush things. he worries if he is a monster... and is afraid that it might be true. (not)

in plot

the friend, in an ironic way, likes to be a 'hero' which makes those bad feelings go away. though he realizes quickly he isn't appreciated, and is looked more like a monster with a collar, rather than a person. the sense of disappointment and pained resignation was large. he was angry at everything, but wondered if he can do anything at all. the only answer? to stop being a hero and go 'home'. he went back to his friend and resigned that position, and moves to the town. he felt defeated and wondered what he'll do now.

the hero government lost it's biggest fighter, and is suffering from the over-reliance of the friend. inversely, the friend is happier as the town appreciates him, and sees him as a real hero. he has a home! he never realized it till he left the government job (or the agency that 'employed' him).

this was all i could wring out from my head.

its mostly slice of  life, a little romance, and character exploration. especially exploring the effects of a supernatural society and thusly, the victims from it.

i decided that a small town is where the setting takes place, and with a bunch of small substories about many of the residents and how they got there. the main scenario is a support group for the victims, where they all share their stories, create bonds with each other, and heal at least a little. this is where the main character gets  to introduce his friend, who is or was an ex-hero that burned his bridges. (he was semi-popular in the public, and was talked a lot by the townsfolk as one of the first visible mutant hero). they are both new to the town, as previously they both were more or less near human society and the hero agencies. thats as much background as i have.

its also supposed to be more comedic than sad, but the contents therein aren't light to the heart. and the general start of the story is after the friend leaves the hero agency, and living in the town as the newest residents. it is both sad but lighthearted, and was a dream that emphasized inter-personal relationships, character growth, acceptance, and general belonging. the government isnt important and nor was it suuuppperr central, just as a stepping stone for different world.

I only know these two for a few minutes but if anything bad happens to them (again TTwTT) I will kill everyone and then myself (the ones that get it get it the ones that don't… this is a quote and not meant to be taken serious)
