finally finished it!! it took actually a week or two. from the research, procrastination, idea, and final render... it was a while haha.

still i wanted to draw a few varieties of pines, some not exactly the de-facto version, but more like an experiment. Still, some of them came out quite well and I expanded on where their leaves (needles) can be placed and grown from, which can make many more differences between dryads. The hair like leaves and needles makes it hard to always make them unique looking as lots of pines have repeated similar shapes and needles. some occasions I'll draw them with the partial branch, such as the foxtail, due to the fact that's what makes them known for, the fox like arrangements of their needles. other times I took liberties in the presentation of the needles themselves, alone or in groups, thin or thick. regardless, it was just another aspect of their designs that I can't completely put in stone.

The last thing about the dryads in general, is what will their seeds look like on them? will it be on their heads? how will the children appear once their in seedling form? how does procreation even work as a plant based humanoid? many trees are identified by their cones or special seeds, so it is an important aspect in making a more unique dryad species in comparison to other dryads. For the pines, how will the cones appear? The male and female aspects look different are in of themselves very unique to many species. Not all pines spread seeds from fires, so not all cultures will have significance in the life and death from fire. different regions and so on... a lot to think of and too many species to account for. Really, the seed thing is totally screwing with my head, due to the ways I can go about it and how much that shapes everything else, not to mention designing it to fit the dryad creatures...

anyway... these are all just thoughts and tribulations from this small series.

this is such a detailed thread of dryads I am so so in love with it all. Your attention to detail and story are fantastic. 😍🥺💖💝💞 I had a small idea for the pinecone situation; given the population of trees in forests, the dryads would have a community and neighbor/friend relationship with each other. So whenever the cones start forming along their back and just all over their needles, a neighbor dryad would tend to them or shake them out once mature. there can even be story for dryads with little to no dryad friends, like they grew away from everyone else and they'd be covered in this clump of mature seeds. kinda like matted hair. One question, are the dryads the whole tree, like tol... or do they melt from the actual tree like in some greek/Roman mythology? Either one is a great idea for them but each base can maybe give you some freedom to place pinecones on the dryad or the tree itself and have the dryad tend to themselves.

Ooh these are all great ideas! I’m thinking that they’re separate from the tree (but like maybe their origins in creation was being made from the tree at first) and the idea of the cones is good too haha. It sounds nice! Thanks for the wonderful input :D
