Using the common trope of “game like system“ and a tower to beat. ”players, hunters, the awakened, etc“ whatever you call them, it’s under the same theme.
regressors are common plot points! The main chara has a special ability called “the bearer of knowledge”, eventually bearer of ALL knowledge. At a cost to any other stats, he knows of other people’s “status windows” whether they are lying, their general intent, and no language is unknown To him.
the regressor has a similar “status window“ ability but no else, and finds that the mc knows all of his secrets. 

the regressor wants to kill him for knowing his one and only secret, especially cus’ he can’t lie nor dupe him in some way, since mc is not naive. Either on his side, or death.
somehow, mc is alive so they had some sort of agreement.

well, the mc freed the demon prince. (Soon to be demon king) who was shackled there by the angels as a way for the players to pick a side and try to wither away the demon prince’s health. Demon prince had most of his abilities sealed, including the one to speak with humans.
he’s begged for the humans to free him, saying that they don’t have to kill or hurt him, and it’s easy to unbind him. He vows to not hurt anyone who saves him.

the regressor only knows that in the future, the demon prince frees himself, and in a state of pure malice, goes against the humans for letting him to die and suffer. Making many of the monsters that aligned with the demons hostile to humans. It was a bloody war that the regressor wants to stop. the demon prince is found as a secret trial in one of the beginner stages/levels. It’s a way to gain the angels favor and pick a “side”.  knowing that all he needs to do is kill the demon prince at his weakest, by slowly but surely wiggling away his health to zero… he can prevent one of the many calamities from his first round.

the mc is the first to know of the regressor, and realizes 2 things. 1, that humans have failed to clear the tower and/or were eliminated, seeing as how the regressor is here to fix things. 2, the regressor is immediately hostile of him. Knowing he knows of him.

mc finds the demon prince, is able to understand him, and before anyone else can stop him, frees the prince. He believes quickly that the angels are untrustworthy as how they refuse to appear, besides as notifications through the system.
for his efforts, the demon prince rewards him a ring of protection that doubles as the royal seal. He’s now welcomed anywhere that aligns with the demons.

regressor immediately hated the mc for causing such a terrible thing! The demon king to be should be dead, not saved! in a surprising way, this also does prevent the calamity. Because the mc can understand the demon prince‘s language (demon speak lmao) he knows that there’s even the option to save him.  he knows the demon prince has no real malice towards the humans (as of that moment) and only grudges against the angels that put him there.

no matter, his plans revolved around getting the loot, exp, and other things from defeating the prince… which is completely obsolete. To have his plans immediately ended and while constantly knowing someone else (not on his side) knows of his secrets… is a threat he can’t ignore.

unfortunately, because of the ring, he cant kill the mc, who will be avenged by the prince who regards him highly. he can only threaten him into silence.
