In this (my aU)  martial arts murim world, the eggs of a mermaid/siren are incredibly prized, especially ones that are high quality.  the world itself doesn’t have many and their population is naturally small.  the reason why they’re prized is that the eggs have properties that can heal and enhance the body. They are like a panacea (something that can cure all ailments essentially) and higher the quality, the closer it is to a true cure all. That is just one thing, it’s even more valuable or equally valuable aspect, is it’s ability to increase one’s strentgh, open pathways and invigorate the soul, making the long procees of increasing internal energy faster. In magic talks, it’s like increasing one’s ability to hold more mana in their body (specifically the dantian) . These are all super rough explanations, but that’s the gist.  If you have at least one high quality egg producer, you essentially have a means of power that any one would kill for. and if its in a contract or exclusive deal? Then people looking to persuade or steal your producer will have worked in vain. Their eggs can change the murim world and create power where there is none, and make the powerful into gods. (Exaggeration). For it’s more selfless use, it can be diluted (break the egg and mix it with other things) into smaller medicines that can help injuries, the sick, and even just act as a supplement. the human is essentially offering the golden goose the world if they so wish, without any clauses that require them to be subservient, just an exclusive producer. This offering requires no extra work and the producer can produce in peace. However! This offering has been made before... and the only reason this merm accepted was because this human… “human” was not making light of his proposal… and is even implying something more. Spoiler spoiler, this is no man! its a merm looking for a mate, one who wishes a grandiose idea, of “world domination” … or close to it anyway. To make a generation of even more powerful porducers that will rightfully reign over and gift their eggs to the world as a generosity.
