When your married you’re Accessories will be tied, symbolizing unity. Similarly for couples AND married folks (though if not married but not single… this is still the one for you.) you’ll move the button down from the anchor spot and have it tied loosely instead. whether you have just one opening or multiple, its customary to tie it to signify your status. There’s a masculine and feminine version of the decoration, but it’s chosen based off preference. It’s original purpose was to seperate opposite sexes visually with the decoration and it is still used in that way, though its only a “Typical“ and not a “mandatory”.  The masculine decor doesnt need to be tied with a masculine outfit, in fact , it’s rarely tied to any outfit, but as custom addition to clothes. Children wear the ornament as well, but it’s also just as common for them to have a neutral ornament that is paired in the middle.  tied decor isn’t common for children but it appears with single laced clothes (with only one opening) and young commoner clothes. It’s a slight break of tradition, but children are exempted and for commoners that can’t afford custom clothes for the typical ornaments.
it helps and complicates that region by region theirs unique takes  of tied and untied decor, especially when it is used in a more standardized way (where all the clothes come with the same anchors and slit numbers) and that makes things more creative, and a little confusing if your not a local in the area.

there’s also clothes with no anchors, therefore only need a simple strip of cloth. No anchors means either a different way to separate sexes visually (different ties or lengths)  OR be a neutral decor. (General accessory)

there’s clothes with no double slits (a typical feminine design) which means the same as above. For reasons like costs and extra effort.
All this to say… I’ve really thought too much into a fictional piece of garment. It’s really fun though, adding it and modifying it into different pieces of clothes to see where they would fit, how, and what it would look like both expensive or accessible.
