👏🎉👏🎉👏👏🍔🍔 Happy 10th anniversary to Arashi! 🍔🍔👏👏🎊👏🎊👏

And happy birthday, too!! I've released a character model sheet to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Arashi Yagatake's birth!

Ten years ago, on May 15, 2010, was the day I first posted Arashi's illustration on the Internet. She was born out of an idea to design a original character for my site(nekoarashi) while talking to viewers during a live broadcast showing my work.

I've loved cat-eared girls since that time, so I started with the premise of a cat-eared character.

I used a variety of references when designing her, including Felicia from Darkstalker, Uriko from Bloody Roar, Chen from Touhou Project, and Tsubasa Hanekawa from the Monogatari series.

However, although the theme of the design was decided, the background of the character was very vague for the first three years because it was only vaguely defined as a character with cat ears girl. Is she even human...? What does her personality look like...? Who the hell is she...?

As a result of thinking like this, in 2013, I completed a character model sheet (now undisclosed) and a full-body standing picture that is close to the character of today.

At this time, her background was very much a fantasy element, even stronger than it is now, and she had the leg power to leap lightly over telephone poles, functioned completely as a cat's eye at night, and the long hair on the top of her head served the same role as a cat's whiskers, making her quite a specter-like character. He might have even considered turning into a cat. But, well, this might have been a good one.

As time went on and I was influenced by different works, I started to rethink what I liked about them. ” Wouldn't it be more interesting to have a character who looks like this and lives a mundane life? " " First of all, I love characters like that. " That's how I came up with the idea of creating a background that looks like this character model sheet now.

In other words, the current Arashi is "an ordinary girl with a bright, energetic and innocent personality with a degree of physical ability that is a little comical, living in a world where all humanity is Androgynous and there are races of beastmen, etc.

Now this background feels right for her anyway. I want to tell people who have seen the old character model sheets and the changes in design that have been made, that something is not going to change dramatically anymore. I can say this with confidence now.

This is Arashi Yagatake.

So, I will continue to draw many Arashi in the future. And about Arashi's surroundings too. Rather, I feel like it's finally started because the image is now firmly in place. I'd like to say that since the world is here, I'd like to make comics and games... but for now, I'm just motivated about it, so don't expect anything yet. But I will definitely be working to make Arashi more attractive, so stay tuned in that regard.

That's all!

Thank you for your continued support of Arashi Yagatake!

[English ver. only commentary]

The last name, "夜ヶ岳 (やがたけ/Yagatake) " is probably a non-existent last name, and the kanji meanings are "夜" is "Night", "ヶ" is "of", and "岳" is "Mountains".

The first name, "嵐 (あらし/Arashi)" is a possible real-life first name, but I've never heard of it much and probably have a strong image of it being used by boys.

The kanji for "嵐" means "Storm".

The Japanese version which was released on Fantia/pixiv 12 hour later on the same day will also be released on Patreon.

Please be patient.

Happy birthday, Arashi! Exciting that I joined just in time for her 10-year anniversary. Keep up breathing life into her (and others) with your work!

Honestly, this is so nice and highly detailed and packed with information, you could publish it as a physical booklet. I'd love to have it as like a guide to your original world. This is amazing, seeing 10 years of your hard work and effort on Arashi and all of your other characters!

Thank you so much! I first met Arashi several years ago. I thought she was beautifully drawn. I became a fan, and was very interested in this normal girl. Someone with her characteristics, living a normal life! It was fresh and appealing. I hope we have many years with Arashi. Happy Birthday, Arashi!

Thank you so much! I will continue to draw more and more Arashi, so thank you for your continued support!

A physical booklet, that's a great idea! I'll consider it in a positive light if I get a chance to put it out in the future! Charming around Arashi leads to charming Arashi, so I'd like to draw more and more of both! Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! The more I drew Arashi, the more I felt that it was too good to end her as just a symbolic character, and I definitely wanted to portray the world she was in. Arashi's background is also Arashi's, so I'm so glad you find it appealing!

Happy 10th birthday Arashi! Er, wait, no, uh... This is really cool and interesting. I've loved and recognized Arashi ever since I saw her way back then. She is the first character I saw with arms and legs like that, and I've loved that kind of thing ever since. I'm always happy to see her and I hope you can keep her around for a long time. Good to see updates to the site, too. I was kinda concerned it would be abandoned like so many others. Congratulations. You are both an inspiration.

She may not have fantastical elements, but she's one of my favorite catgirls. Thanks for making her.

Happy anniversary

nekoarashi

I haven't done a physical book in a while, but I'd like to do one of hers someday...!

nekoarashi

Thank you for congratulating her! Thinking about her is so much fun..... I want to live as brightly as she does too!

nekoarashi

Thank you so much! I was as shocked as you were when I learned of a character named Felicia whose limbs are in the shape of a cat a long time ago. I'm so glad that I'm being able to pass on that kind of awesomeness. The decline of websites is due to the development of SNS, and I feel the same way. However, with the acquisition of my own domain, which was made possible by many support here, the site is now more important to me than it was in the past. It will evolve again!
