Meet the Brooklyn Jacket! Yet again, I'm bringing you something inspired by The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, since I know you all just can't get enough of her looks. Midge never shies away from a fabulous jacket or coat, and as costume designer Donna Zakowska wrote in her excellent book Madly Marvelous, "her rainbow closet of coats became inseparable from her persona." Likewise, she has a whole collection of little jackets to coordinate with her dresses and skirts.

The Brooklyn Jacket is a fully lined and fitted jacket in two lengths, with two versatile sleeve options. Make it in a cropped version with darling covered buttons and an open front or in the waist-length version with a sophisticated front button closure. With an optional faux welt breast pocket and pocket square, you have many mix-and-match opportunities to sew your own elegant fantasy! The best part of this jacket is that it's weather-appropriate no matter where you are in the world.

In this month's photos, we've paired the jacket with the Carousel Dress (match your lining, buttons, and pocket square to your dress for bonus points), but it would also look stunning with any of your other Charm separates. Pair with the Audrey Cigarette Pants or the Stanwyck Pencil Skirt for a polished suit look, or match it with any of our sleeveless dresses (Liz and Lamour come to mind) for a little extra coverage. We've even seen Miriam Maisel pair a jacket with shorts (hello, Catskills episodes!), and I think Brooklyn would look really adorable with Loretta Shorts and a Hepburn Top.

Wondering about fabrics and supplies? Check out the written instructions at the bottom of this post for links and recommendations. You'll also find the tiled file (for printing at home on A4 or letter size sheets and taping together) and the A0 file (for printing at a copy shop like pdfplotting.com). Please note that we now have two size blocks, so make sure to download the correct files for the size you're making. If you have any questions about the new range, don't forget to read our blog post with all the details!

Check out our video for the #BrooklynJacket in the next post.

xoxo,

Gertie

Just in case anyone was wondering, the arms are tight. I made it two sizes too big and the arms are still too tight, and yes I'm a big girl, but for my size my arms are not that big. So if you know fun tricks to make that work for you, you'll need them :)

I love this so much! It's exactly the kind of pattern I have been looking for but haven't been able to find. This will help me wear more of my sleeveless dresses in the cooler months.
