Hey Artists, it’s time for another guest-designed pattern! I am thrilled to bring you something totally different this month: a pair of gorgeous gloves from Jeanne Hermans, the designer behind the couture glove atelier C’est Jeanne. Follow her on Instagram (@cest_jeanne) to see the jaw-dropping creations she designs. I am so proud we could bring in an artist of her caliber to teach us something totally new.
The Jeanne Gloves are vintage-style fitted gloves made in stretch fabrics, and their beautiful seaming and detailing feel like pure luxury on the hands. Give them a femme fatale vibe in two-toned fabric, like our leopard and black pair. Or go super sweet, with ruffled mesh gloves that would be perfect for high tea. However you make them, these are the perfect year-round accessory for your Charm creations! And the best part is that they will be custom sized to both your hand width and your finger length for a truly bespoke item.
Working on the Jeanne Gloves has taught us so much, and I guarantee that these couture-level accessories will give you a whole new appreciation for the art of glove-making. Jeanne designed these gloves to be suitable for the first-time glove sewist, with simple stretch fabrics and minimal finishing. Still, you will find that the skills required to sew these delicate pieces (⅛” seam allowances! Tiny finger gussets!) make them a challenging project. Our best advice is to watch the video all the way through before sewing and make at least two test gloves to acquaint yourself with the process. You can do it! Just give yourself plenty of time and patience to practice.
Wondering about fabrics and supplies? Check out the written instructions (complete with illustrations!) at the bottom of this post for links and recommendations. The pattern file is attached for printing on A4 or letter-size sheets. See the step-by-step video in this post.
Thank you so much to Jeanne for creating this gorgeous pattern for us, and for teaching us the refined art of glove-making. We hope you love this project! Don’t forget to share your finished gloves with the hashtag #jeannegloves.
Xoxo,
Gertie
