Important announce from Ed

here the text:

As some of you know, it has always been our intention, as time went on, to release the old drawings. We waited a whole year to do so, and when it was about time, someone thought it best to come in and publicly post all the content of the page, including BID that would have later been posted for free on Webtoon as well. We decided not to get discouraged and keep BID private just for us and you, and in the meantime we hoped to again accumulate some drawings before we started posting exclusive material publicly but still our plan failed, again because of a pirate.

It has now been three months in a row that our material is promptly taken and republished without our consent by different people, at this rate it is completely useless to try to grow our archive and at the same time post exclusive drawings publicly.

Because of these recent events we will be forced to change the way we get you the exclusive material we post and will change the management of the archive. We are still thinking about what to do but we will do what we can to protect our work and the support you give us. So don't worry, as always each month there will be 3-4 exclusive drawings (depending on how many Fridays that month has)
and the drawings will, as always, be chosen by you with polls. For chocolate travelers it will always be possible to suggest sequences and drawings so we will continue to do our best to actively involve you all and fulfill your wishes!

Unfortunately patreon does not provide us with any tool to be able to defend ourselves, maybe some of you think it is not all that big deal but the problem is huge. A few months ago we were close to 300 travelers, but since every month someone started posting everything publicly the number of subscribers has dropped quite a bit, moving us considerably away from our goal and the possibility of hiring some help to improve the quality and quantity of our designs.

So, from tomorrow we will make sure that you will still get your exclusive contents but in different and safe mode , be patient and know that we do this to protect our work but also the support and ideas you give us every day.
We are not rich nor popular, we live off the support you give us and we are grateful for that, that is why we are not going to give up, we are going to fight piracy and we are going to continue to offer you our entertainment because we love our work and we will continue to do it.

We will bring forward the publication of sequences, we will bring forward the publication of "Bound to a star" and the programming of "Enskevos," we will have some slowdowns because we will need time to compile the DMCAs but if you continue to support us we will go forward together with you.

a hug to you patrons by Ed and Doc

Hope things go better. If I may ask, do you think that the drop in subscribers is directly correlated with leaked content?

fokk3rs

Unfortunately the two coincide and so we think the two events are related... as long as the material is redistributed for free it is difficult for people to feel like supporting us financially and we are very sorry about that especially because many of the drawings we do now are your ideas and we would like to protect them. That is why we will look for other safe ways for you to take advantage of our entertainment without missing anything.

Maybe posting your images with big watermarks on them, even on Patreon, would prevent the idiot from posting elsewhere.

One patreon I followed for a bit did a time limited file once a month. The file/folder would have a password that would last for a month. They would dm the pass to people.

I understand protecting your work is important, but I think requiring patrons to DM you every time you put out a new piece will end up driving more people away than when they get leaked. Because if the art still gets leaked after this change and you put in another layer of security, people may not find it worth the money if they have to jump through hoops just to get the art they're paying for. I'm not telling you how to run your patreon, but keep in mind people pay for convenience, and if it becomes easier to wait for it to be released publicly, then they might choose the easier option.

fokk3rs

you're absolutely right and this is why we hate to be forced to act this way... Patreon is a beautifull toll but this flaw (the file scraping) is too big to be ignored

fokk3rs

that could be a solution, better than the one we have in place for this friday

fokk3rs

it's not just one guy posting it somwehere, it's a matter of a bot coming in and scraping everything. We're astonished to see patreon is well aware of the issue but they can't do anything to prevent it...

Simon Bitdiddle

Yeah, I'm not happy with the 'having to DM to get a password for a thing that I've ostensibly paid to see' and I appreciate the difficult decisions with no actual workarounds you have been presented. I'm pretty sure it's not going to scale well. That being said, I'm not planning on dropping my Patreon unless it becomes prohibitive from me seeing your works.

fokk3rs

We absoutely hate this course of action, I'm still astonished patreon can't do absolutely anything to detect a bot scraping pages, or to see when multiple accounts uses the same credit card/paypal...
