Honestly the whole Yamato stuff has been so badly handled by Oda. There is barely any drama around Okiku stuff, but people go apeshit when it comes to Yamato.

Even BEFORE the official confirmed SHE it was painfully obvious she wasn't trans or anything of the like. Yamato says "he" to strictly refer to themselves as Oden as if Oden himself was a gender (lol) because of how much she looks up to/wants to be him. She isn't like Kiku where she wants to be the opposite gender, she just wants to be like Oden who HAPPENS to be the opposite gender.
