So I've been kicking this idea around for a while now and after producing the conceptually similar story The Things She Puts Up With For Tips, I finally decided to put words to it. It's called This Is Our Story, and it's about the editor-in-chief of a high school yearbook of that name, and after the yearbook staff gets some new software, shenanigans ensue. I'm gonna say some thoughts about it, but I'm going to write it as if you've already read it, so... go read it, then come back at me.

***SPOILERS BELOW***

So first what this isn't, which is another Master PC story. Obviously this program has already let Conner do something wild, but I don't want to turn this into the god mode that always ensues there. Much as having a copy of Master PC might be endlessly entertaining in real life, having a character with such unlimited power can get old for me fast. TIOS has limit, and will remain themed as a piece of software for high school yearbook editing... with a twist or two.

To make a story out of this, we'll be looking at another novel/novella length piece. Time to introduce the concept, develop characters, toss out some protagonists and conflicts, etc. I think it has some potential to be interesting, with some obvious potential for some good steam. It's always dicier working with teenagers, but a quick 18+ disclaimer for characters whose naughty bits are actually stimulated solves a lot of those issues when it comes to publication.

That all said, I'm curious to know what you all think. Is this worth pursuing? Would you like to see more, or flush this turd and go to something else? Let me know, gang.

I'd really like to see more of it. One of my favorite types of story are the ones where things get weird and reality seems slightly off, tilted in favor of the protagonist. My New Girlfriend had that in spades, as did my favorite of yours, The Fiend's Tongue. (Holy shit, if anything of yours deserves a sequel...) And, yeah, I enjoyed reading a Master PC-type story that didn't have a "and then I made my body god-like and learned martial arts" part seven paragraphs in. Please keep the story going!

Enjoyed it! Reality warping and a unique take on body swapping - nice! Can't wait for more!

Yes, I think it sounds awesome. Speaking of your last longer work, did you axe the third part of the Harmony Reed story? Or is it just stuck in writers block limbo?

icebear

Yeah, what IS that with the martial arts thing? Like, vanity I get, but you have unlimited power and you need jujitsu? Never understood why that is such a thing in those stories!

icebear

Definitely not! Just giving myself a little break. I try to focus on whatever I have the most energy for at the time. I already have lots of ideas sketched out for Harmony Reed, and I will definitely getting back to her in the months to come. My loose expectation is that, if I go ahead with This Is Our Story, then I want to go back and finally get Tolerance/The Tolerant revamped, then the lovely Ms. Reed.

Sounds great, and like it would have a variety of characters with different experiences/dynamics. I’d love to read.
