THIS IS A BIG DEAL.  So, please REALLY consider the ramifications of your votes before voting!

Essentially, you are all paying me to do a job.  I work, as you know, every day and I would like you to continue paying me! lol  So, depending on how this voting goes, it may change things up a lot.  Now that many of you have played SB:C, and you see how Ren'py looks and feels.  IF I CAN FIND A WAY TO STILL DO CHARACTER UNLOCKS AND THE LEFT SIDE MENU OPTIONS (Like bad End Menus) should I continue using Twine/HTML (which all novels have been) or should I change to Ren'py for the novels?  Ether way, I cannot do GAME MODES until a programmer ever comes ot help me again.

Again this is a BIG, BIG change.  This would be a HUGE deal, but I know some of you only care about Story mode anyway.  I thought that I would ask this and sort it out LONG before I get to the point to redo the old novels.  And, I wanted to ensure that you really contemplate this before you vote, because, if I switch, I do not want to lose even one of you as a fan or an investor!  So please decide!  You have plenty of time as I am setting this to end when I return from my honeymoon!
Things to keep in mind:
If I change, I will have to take time to switch things over at first- meaning a longer release time in the beginning before going back to usual.
Text will appear in that little box at the bottom, just like on SB:C, so be mindful that the larger paragraphs and such, will be broken up into several rectangles worth of content.
I will only do it as long as we can still do Bad End Menus
I will only do it if we can still do the character unlocks/menu

A lot of great games have been made on Ren'Py

It's a tough choice for me because I love being able to play the novels in browser through twine, but I feel like Ren'py offers a much better experience.

Anonymous

If this allows you to steampress your inspiration without having to rely on outside sources I'd say Tally Ho Dark One

Chris

Your game modes are my favorite. Please keep them!

pukl

Which would make life, work and passion easier for you?

Anaximanes

Well to reiterate from my weekly updates, Shadow Code, the programmer that was doing the game Modes, disappeared as of April. So, for now, Renpy or Twine, either way, I have no ability to make Game Modes as it is.

Anaximanes

To be honest, they would probably be roughly equal. Ren'py will require a bit of time to sort of transition to, but since I have been working with it for SB:C, I think it would only take a Chapter or two before I was used to it.

Anaximanes

Mwa ha ha ha! Thank you! If I can get Ren'py to look similiar to Twine in layout, which a fan is doing right now, then I prefer the higher resolution art with Renpy. The only real downside for me is having it all in the little rectangle at the bottom, instead of laid out like a book format. I will play the little Giggle Night chapter 1 demo the programmer is making and see how it feels to make a good choice.

Anaximanes

Indeed, in particular, I heard of this extraordinarily amazing one called Slugs and Bugs: Conversion!

I'm voting on Ren'py because I find Twine to be limiting and buggy, as it works through a browser, as the games get bigger, they tend to be buggier and slower, I assume using a game engine like Ren'py would help alleviate those problems

Anaximanes

You're probably right on that. Shadow Code had told me that he found a way to stop all the slowdown and the stack call errors in the novels, but since he vanished, the fix went with him. So, that maybe true.

Richard L Oswalt

I say do what is best for you as a creator. I know that trying to please your fans can be something to reach for but if it is too much trouble to do something then I'm sure that all of us will understand.

Anaximanes

I appreciate that. This is definitely causing a bit of interest and I think playing GN ch 1 as a renpy game will be interesting to see if anyone changes their votes.

Neil Bender

i suggest before you commit to changing game engines test to see if what you want to pull off is possible in ren'py first with a demo then release the demo to us to 1 ease us in and 2 get our feeling bout the mater

Anaximanes

That's actually happening as we speak, a programmer is putting together Chapter 1 of GN into Renpy form.

Nice! I haven't had a chance to play it yet. It is next on my list though. I am still working through Desideratum and Giggle Nights.

Chris Widnall

i would say finish off the ones u are doing on Twine then move over to Ren

Anaximanes

I am afraid that for continuity and it may just be my autism, I want everything to be the same.

Anaximanes

Oh! Well, when you play SB:C I think you'll see how much more high resolution the art can be if I do not use Twine because it is a Renpy game.

I'm a game dev myself (for Tentacle Slave) and made the jump from Twine to Renpy about a year ago. I'm glad I did, even though Renpy has more of a learning curve than Twine did. Renpy has a huge Discord community that's happy to help figure things out, though, so you'll definitely be able to do just about everything you want to, with Renpy.
