Hello my soft nerds, this is my February sketchbooook!

This month I ended up using my "ugly sketchbook" (where I doodle, do rough sketches, sketch ideas for instagram posts, take notes) more than my regular sketchbook. I was thinking the reason behind this and it's because this month I sketched live/people a lot (instead of doing illustrations in my studio, with gouache and online references).

My dearest friend Megan invited me to the well-known "Drink and Draw" in Brooklyn. This was my second time in a Drink and Draw and it works like this: you pay $10, you get to drink AND draw a live model for 2 and a half hours. It's AWESOME. You'll notice a couple of things

1. I'm rusty in the nude department, I NEVER draw nudes (should we draw nudes together?) I get really embarrassed hahaha SILLY, I KNOW

2. How much my sketches change as I go, please compare first pages with the last ones. I always try to remind myself to be patient: in the beginning I tend to feel bad when I can't draw the model the first time, but once you warm up, shapes come to you more easily

3. The last poses were 10-20 minutes long, and since I sketched kind of fast, I drew the model several times to get her face right or to try to practice more. I thought "I never do this, so I might as well seize every minute!"

ALSO I went to our weekly chilean assembly here in NYC and I always like to draw the fellow chileans who attend each meeting. It's a two-hour long thing, and since I'm seating in front it gives me the perfect opportunity and time to practice! Also: I noticed I pay more/better attention to things around me when I draw, do you guys too?

Resources:

- Please see if there's a Drink and Draw in your area! I know there's one in Berlin cause that's the first one I attended!

- Someone send me this link on twitter: it's a photoshoot of a 5 de Mayo in Portland and there are SO MANY faces of random strangers. GREAT way to practice guys! I have it open on a tab and every time I'm like "meeeh I have no idea what to draaaw" I draw one :  )

- My ugly sketchbook is a bend-y Moleskine in A4, and I'm using a Mitsubishi pencil my cousin Fernanda gave me, in HB

I'll let you know when I'm going to Drink and Draw again so we can go together if you're in the area! It's every Wednesday at 8pm at the BatHaus (just realised there are several Drink and Draw in NYC but this is the one I went to)
