By now, you've probably heard the news: Indigenous & Northern Affairs Canada will soon be no more. Sort of.

And on next week's podcast, that's precisely the sort of ambiguity we'll explore as we rely on some special panelists to help us break down what's truly new (and what's not) about the Liberal government's decision to re-organize the current INAC into two new entities:

  • the Department of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs

  • the Department of Indigenous Services

If you're like us, this has raised questions, lots and lots of questions. So why not share yours with us, as part of our special discussion about this recently-announced re-org of INAC? What questions or concerns, hopes or hesitations, do you have about this supposed shift to a new way of doing 'Indigenous business' by the federal government?

As dedicated supporters of the show, your input is especially important to us, and incorporating it into the show is one way we'd like to begin demonstrating more direct appreciation of your on-going investment in our work. Of all the questions we hope to receive, yours will definitely be prioritized.

Hope to hear from you soon!

How do you feel the addition of the word "crown" to one of the department names? To me, it made me feel upset that we still give importance to "her majesty the queen". In some ways though, I'm glad this word was added to better reflect the historical colonial relationship but I wonder what Justin's motivations were for adding the "crown" distinction to the department. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

I'm concerned about how this will affect accessibility to services- will people used to going through inac find themselves shunted back and forth between the new departments and their hazy division of responsibilities? I also wonder if this new division means an expansion of the buearacracy - how many new jobs does this mean for primarily settlers, and how much more labyrinthine does it become for reserves to deal with? I'm also incredibly frustrated with a vision of reconciliation being put forward that does not include land return or funding parity, but rather focuses on moving departments of colonial management around. When I heard the news I thought of your show right away- thank you for providing a forum to consider events like this and the questions they raise every week! I know a lot of us out here appreciate it.
