Mayhaps you heard us mention it towards the end of our latest episode, or, maybe you saw us crow about it on our Twitter feed, but, either way, we thought we might risk a little extra horn-tooting by sharing the news here that Apple Podcasts has just named MEDIA INDIGENA a 2024 Voice for Change! Woot-woot!!

What exactly is a Voice of Change, you ask? Here's how they described it to me:

Each year, Apple Podcasts Canada selects a few creators who exemplify the breadth and depth of Canadian culture and community. In this moment as Canada's cultural landscape shifts, moves, and progresses, we are choosing to celebrate creators—their passion, their work, and their dedication to creating audio and telling stories that inform, teach, and guide listeners to make Canada and its community change for the better. The creators chosen for Voices of Change are enriching lives, present and future, by showcasing new knowledge, illuminating history, fostering community, and inspiring thought, conversation, and reflection.

I gotta tell ya, when I first got word of this in my email, I kinda had one of those moments of non-recognition—you know, turning around to see if these super-flattering words were meant for someone behind me—but I'm pretty positive they're meant for us!

Now, of course, none of this would even be possible were it not for the incredible roundtablers this podcast is privileged to have on its roster: really, my job is to simply stoke them with questions they routinely knock out of the park. Honestly, it is thanks to the consistent brilliance of Brock, Candis, Ken, Kim and Trina—along with the dozens of special guests we've hosted over hundreds of episodes—that MI has been able to do what it does, year in and year out. A longevity literally enabled by the hundreds of patrons—like YOU—who so generously support our work. On behalf of everyone at the podcast, thank you.

Phew! Well, guess we better get back to working on that 12-high stack of summer episodes we got cooking up for you, an amazing line up of retrospectives meticulously and lovingly drawn from our voluminous archive. ♡

Rick
