Chapter 54

-VB-

Being back in Jorasmang City and Duchy proved to be more of a headache than it was a boon.

Just like last Saturday, I spent all of yesterday dealing with the people, nobles, merchants, and every interest group in my territory. Yes, interest groups. There were the usual financial-bent ones, anti-magic ones, scared ones, and so on. The trio I dealt with on Sunday was but one of many similar groups, though certainly the more influential of them.

I shed all of those duties today.

Today was my day off!

I was ready to have a day of debauchery.

I really was! I even had toys and got ready to **** with Lux and **** with Sona and maybe get a few other pretty girls involved, too. One of the maids gave me saucy looks, so maybe I could even have a master-maid ***** and *****!

I was going to have so sexy time with the girls I loved.

But all three of my women caught the flu at the same time. I wasn’t going to go around gallivanting when my women were sick.

“Sorry…”

I looked up from where I had squeezed the water out of a towel. Delilah looked at me while laying down. She, Lux, and Sona were all in the same large room, each laying in a separate bed. They breathed in and out shallowly to their own pace.

“Everyone gets sick,” I replied with a smile. “I’m actually happy that I am able to care for all of you right now.”

She giggled weakly before her eyes drifted close and went back to sleep.

I snorted as I carefully laid the moist towel on her forehead just as I had done for Lux and Sona.

Honestly, I didn’t feel bad about doing this. Sure, I’m unhappy my girls got sick in the first place, but shit happened. What would have been worse than the current situation was if they were here and I was back in the capital. I imagined hearing about the three being sick in a letter, and constantly worrying if they had caught something truly nasty. The uncertainty of it all would have driven me insane. Whether I would have immediately made my way back or not was up for debate (within my head) as duties and responsibilities to the state would always come first for those around me.

Like hell I would have let that stop me.

It also felt great to be able to take care of my loved ones. It’s a little corny on the surface, yeah, if I said it without context, but there was a bit of love that came through whenever I helped them with eating, cleaning, and improving. Not in a paternal sense, no. I mean in a very “I’m taking care of my other half(s)” way. I also took time to personally take care of Darren, Emma, and Senna (Delilah and my daughter). Our three babies were fussy, crying often as they called for their sick moms.

Today was no different. No less than an hour after I left my three women, I was in the kids’ room, carrying all three of them at once and rocking them back to sleep after I’d just finished feeding them.

… What confused me through all of this was why I wasn’t sick. I mean I was around my three girls all of the time. If anything, I should also be a bed with them, coughing my lungs out. Instead, I was just a little tired (from taking care of everyone) but fine overall.

‘I know,’ I thought to myself as the tykes finally fell asleep. I slowly and gently laid them down in their cots. ‘I’ll push some of my magicians to start developing medical drugs. I’m sure at least one of them will be interested in that, right? It’s bound to get boring doing the same kind of research over and over again.’

I slipped out of the room and made my way down towards-.

I stopped when I felt soft pair of melons pushing up against my back and a pair of arms wrapping around my shoulders and neck.

“I’m home, master~.”

I blinked and looked over my shoulder. “Vayne!” I greeted happily.

Vayne Shauna, my brainwashed murder machine, smiled back at me before assuming her more in-character role. She detached herself from me, put some distance between us, and got down to one knee and bowed. She got in without alerting anyone, including my own alarm system.

Scary, but then again, she knew her way around my systems of magic.

“I have completed the mission you have given me, master. Viego, the unseen hand behind the Harrowing, has been sealed.”

Smiling, I got down and helped her back up.

“Thank you, Vayne. You’ve done wonderfully,” I praised her with a big, fat smile. This was something I’ll be able to use. “Is there anything I could get you as a reward?”

She blinked. She clearly didn’t expect me to ask her that. “I… May I ask at a later time?” she asked. “I am unsure of what I want at this moment.”

Ah, ever the composed lady (despite her murderous past and present).

What’s a few murders when there are manners to be had, am I right?

“Of course. Now, my girls are all sick right now, so you can meet them later. As for you, I’ll be sure to let everyone in Demacia know that it was you, one of their own, who went and vanquished the Harrowing!”

And with it, my political capital would also rise. It would also have the effect of shutting up my opponents across all levels for a year at least.

What a wonderful turn of events!
