A strange and wonderful welcome back to the next instalment of Atelier Barbette!

This 3-ish minute episode looks at my first attempt to run the whole damn act in its entirety since ... well ... January?

And even in January, I was really only running halves or thirds of the act while targeting technical wrinkles that needed ironing (or trying to build up the sheer strength to survive the physical demands of just those shorter parts alone!)

LET'S GO, MUSCLES!

As mentioned in the video, if you'd like to check out the artist's page for Tanya Burka (mentioned in this episode), it's here, and her Instagram is here.

As mentioned briefly in the last Atelier Barbette blurb, THINGS HAVE BEEN HAPPENING WITH COSTUMES! By which I mean, I've had TWO fittings with Michael Slack (the costume designer) and Marianne (the seamtress/sewer) and have been given prototype costume pieces to rehearse with (!!!!!!!!!)

It's a huge relief for there to be forward momentum on this part of the project; it's felt like a major blockage for such a long time now.

There's a new mountain of problems to climb and solve in this world of the creation – are the pieces going to be durable enough? How do the pieces remove? With which hand? With what kinds of fastening devices? So many questions! ... Not to mention the unique hell of starting to wrestle with the physical costume pieces themselves and allow my starting-to-become-carefully-timed-choreography regress back several steps because ... well ... hey, it takes time to take clothes off  (and even the time I did budget for removing costume pieces while simply rehearsing in my training clothes isn't quite accurate) 😅

It's all comin' atcha in your next few posts, friends!

I'll be sticking to this Monday morning + Thursday morning posting schedule I've accidentally established because ... well, hey, I love a routine.

Until then, stay strange & wonderful -

XO Ess

Yessss this is such a big milestone to be able to get thru the act not once, but 2.5 times! That’s huge, congrats!! And the costuming is happening, too, all really awesome forward momentum, yay!

So happy to see this episode. 2.5 is nothing to sneeze at out of the gate. Honestly the first part of your strap change at the end, I did not see you do it. I had to go back and check! It’s exciting Ess!!
