TRAINING VLOG 3 - March 2020 (Patreon)

* le sigh * The final instalment of recent Montreal mouthpiece missioning.
So — when I was in Mongolia, my first coach’s approach was:
*points to mouthpiece* “Okay, go.”
That didn’t work so well for me. My entire left arm was numb for about 6 weeks after about two days of that method.
My second coach was mildly horrified to hear of the first coach’s approach, and insisted on a combined approach that involved different endurance drills that addressed individual aspects of the entire skill, along with heavily, very expertly spotted ‘full’ mouthpiece attempts (like coach 1).
I returned to Canada with the instructions that I was to continue my endurance skills, and report back with a video in three months to be approved for trying more on my own.
Well. That was ... coming up on a year ago, now. And my recent planned trip to Mongolia was foiled by COVID-19.
Sometime in the last month I realized that my lacklustre, not-very-heartfelt mouthpiece drill upkeep was missing something vital.
Passion.
Without that, it’s pretty damn hard to keep pushing yourself towards a far-off goal, with a painful path leading to it on top of that.
I sat down and had a long conversation with myself, and decided that, Mongolia or no, this skill was not going to happen if I didn’t find a way to make it exciting for myself again, and push my damn self (safely) in the absence of my coach (well.... MY absence from HIM, really, but whatever).
Thus — the last vlog, and this one, containing clips of me traumatizing poor Jen as my willing-but-terrified spotter (thank you Jen ❤️). I’m mildly terrified too, but more importantly ...
... I’m excited about this again.
Stay strange, wonderful, and socially distanced -
Xx
