Major Patreon Improvements Incoming! (Important: Please Read) (Patreon)

Hello Patrons! (or should I say HOWZIT?!)

I wanted to talk to you about some big and exciting improvements that we’ve got planned for the way our Patreon is structured. When Jimmy and I set-up The Command Zone on this platform back in 2016, we honestly had no idea what we were doing. We based our tiers and rewards off of other seemingly successful creators at the time and just ran with it. It’s now been 5+ years since that initial set-up so we’re long overdue for a complete and total upgrade of the whole thing.

We know that our Patreon can be so much better and offer so much more.

This upgrade will have three major features:

1)   MORE AND BETTER REWARDS

We’re implementing extensive improvements to the tiers and rewards system. We’re going to release more Patreon bonus content, more often. Videos that ONLY the patrons have access to. On top of that, we’re going to be producing and giving away more merchandise.

2)   PLAY COMMANDER WITH US!

We want to have more direct interaction with all of you. One of our biggest new commitments will be the opportunity to play Commander games with us (via Spelltable) every single week. That means you better tune-up your decks because, as we all know “Only ONE may stand!!”

3)   MONTHLY PLEDGES

Our original Patreon set-up charged you on a “per video” basis but we’re finally switching to the more standard model, a flat amount billed per month. Meaning: you’ll pledge the same amount, no matter how many videos we release.

This is simply a quality of life upgrade that will make things cleaner and easier for everyone involved. We want you to be able to know and predict exactly how much you’re contributing. I think our heart was in the right place with the per-video model (we originally wanted to be able to take a week off here and there, without y’all having to still pay for it) but wow did it make things confusing for all involved. We’re very excited to move on from it.

This change does necessitate a rethinking of our current reward tier structure. But that had to happen anyway, to accommodate all of the new rewards we have planned.

For current patrons, this switch to monthly billing will be automatic. You don’t have to do anything. The system will place you into the tier that corresponds with your current contribution level (assuming 5 videos released per month, and taking into account your monthly limit). You will never be charged more per month, under the new system, than you were paying during the per-video model. If anything, some of you will end up contributing less. Excepting of course, those who choose to purposefully move to a higher tier (which you can do at anytime once the switchover happens)

These changes will go into effect the week of March 21, 2022 and will coincide with the next round of Game Knights auditions. Yes, you read that right. If you’ve dreamed of appearing at the table with Jimmy and me, to be knighted on an episode of Game Knights, this will be your chance! Oh, and we already have plans to give patrons a similar opportunity to guest on Extra Turns later this year.

I hope you’re as excited about all of these upgrades as we are. We’re committed to improving the Patreon experience for all of you and want to make sure you know how appreciative we are for your support. Without our patrons, our content wouldn’t exist.

As with any change of structure of this magnitude, there will undoubtedly be some bumps along the way. It may take us a couple of months to get all the new features up and running. If you experience any issues with the changeover, big or small, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly through Patreon DMs and we will work hard to fix it right away. If you need a refund, we’ll process it asap. No questions asked. We want to make this all upside for you. It’s the least we can do to say thank you.
